Here is what you do, when Sunday comes and everybody getting for Church sit in front of the television and act like you don't see them. After awhile your mom will come to you and say "get ready for Church." That's when say you "no, I don't believe in God", your mom will first flip out and go crazy and the she act will sad. Both of these are tactics to manipulate you into going to Church. She probably do this for about for a year and half before she stops caring. Well that is what happen when I told my mom I didn't believe in God.

Many Gods were created by man over time. There are no atheist in foxholes. We are all afraid to die so we create a God and then go out to kill any others that don't believe in exactly the same God we have created. The Bible is full of stories and history. It is not literal and is more symbolic. When the Bible was written man believed the world was flat and they were trying to explain things. Jesus was a wonderful person and almost everybody knows his name. He wanted to replace the Kingdom of Herod with the Kingdom of Heaven ... here on earth. Herod's kingdom was very much like today in that taxes were really high and the people were being robbed by the government. The church is a wonderful place for fellowship even tho everyone there has a different belief ... no two alike.

God does not exist. So you are right to disagree with the opinions of your mother.

Religion is spread mainly through scaring people into believing in some imaginary man sitting on a cloud, and an two imaginary places, one of which you are supposedly going to spend the rest of eternity depending on your actions in life (whereas the human race should really be intelligent enough to not to commit inhuman crimes without being threatened with eternal fire and brimstone). But it is this fear which allows the church to keep making money and making it a highly profitable business for those higher companies, societies and individuals who are involved.

Do not take offence to this, but your mother is obviously a woman of ignorant and closed minded tradition. It is not her fault, the culture she grew up in didn't know better and sufficiently scared her into thinking there is no other option than to dedicate her life to this imaginary figure.

But the human mind is getting more intelligent. That is why there are more atheists every single day, because the more information we get about life and the universe the more people are starting to think logically.

If you are intelligent enough to understand this then the opinions of other people are irrelevant. Let them pity you, let them think you are going to hell, because you will be the one laughing when you die and haven't wasted your life worshipping something that doesn't exist.

Well, if she is truly a godly woman then she will appreciate your honesty as long as you don't tell her in a disrespectful way. I mean if you tell her something like "Mom, you know I love you but I have to admit that I just don't really believe in God" then a godly mother would thank her daughter and start praying for God to reveal Himself to her so that she could believe. In fact you could suggest that she pray for you so that you could believe in God. That way she would know that you at least respected the fact that she believes in God and you would give her some hope along with the disappointing news that for all you know may not be news to her in the first place.

You can`t really make someone believe, unless that person can see ,what there is to believe in .Most children are indoctrinated into whatever religion their parents are .
Parents do this through guilt ,fear ,punishment and reward .
Sort of like interrogation techniques used by the military to break P. O. W.`s

Is it that you don't believe in God, or is it that you don't necessarily believe in what that religion has to say? I gave up on church years ago, but I truely believe there is a higher being, so I pray and talk to him, but I dont celebrate any religion.

Unless there is an actual reason to bring it up, I see no reason to cause a ruckus in your family. It will just upset your mother and cause her to preach at you constantly (if she's anything like my family.)

If you really feel like you have to tell her, be nonconfrontational about it. Just tell her that you've thought a lot about it, read a lot and learned a lot, and that you have decided that atheism is the only thing that makes sense for you. Then expect much preaching (see parenthesis above.)

When the time comes you will let her know that you are moving on to other things.

A loving parent should never force their religion on their offspring after they have chosen what they want.

I wouldn't say anything just yet. Even though it's annoying to listen to someone rant on about the bible and god, just let her do it. Then when you are out on your own, you can just bring it up one day, or just let her figure it out on her own. I still don't think I've ever said anything to my parents as of yet.

I don't know, I'd probably just come out and say it, but then again I never had to deal with religious parents before. I wish I could give you a better answer.
