Freezing rice is a huge time saver, especially with brown rice(55 minutes to cook) Make a double or triple batch. Then cool to room temperature. Measure into zip-locks, squeeze out the air and freeze.

When you are ready to have it again, microwave the bag and all for 2-3 minutes until the bag puffs up. Be careful! The steam in the bag can do damage!

This works very well for all rices, barley, and pastas.

When I cook lasagne noodles I need a huge pot of water so it takes a long time to heat. Once heated I cook at least a couple of boxes of noodles and freeze in small packages just right for 1 batch of lasagne.

Certainly. To reheat the rice, use a saucepan with a steamer. Put about an inch of water in the sauce pan; drop in the steamer basket; then add the frozen rice to the steamer basket; and cover. Turn flame to medium and let the steam reheat the rice for 5-10 minutes (time will depend on amount of rice and size of saucepan). When ready, be sure to wipe the bottom of the steamer basket off to remove any condensation that has built up.

This works for "conventional" (Uncle Ben's) long grain rice. Not sure how it will work with other types.

It freezes very well and last a long time. Seal it in serving sized portions in freezer bags.

Minute Rice sucks......real rice frozen and microwaved is much better.

I freeze mine all the time. I just use plastic containers, Tupperware. Frozen rice is easily thawed in the microwave, and doesn't seem to lose much in taste or texture after being frozen.

By itself? Probably, but who would want to? It's so simple with Minute Rice or the 20 minute "long" method; something like Carolina or Basmati is so much better fresh!

Yes, just put it in an airtight container when you freeze it and you'll be fine.
