There are many things that will happen when the Messiah comes.

The most obvious will be an end to all wars -- the lion will lay down with the lamb and men will study war no more -- swords will be beaten into plowshares, etc.

Since none of the Messianic prophecies were fulfilled in the time of Jesus (or since then), it would seem that the Jesus thing was a false alarm.

The Jewish scriptures are full of warnings against falling for a false Messiah -- but there are no warnings against failing to recognize the Messiah.

Suffice it to say, that when the Messiah arrives, there will be no need for discussion about his authenticity. It will be extremely obvious and not a subject for debate.

The messiah will be a great leader (human - not God) who will help us to bring peace on earth. Jews have followed many great leaders believing them to be the messiah, but when the leader dies without having brought peace, they know that he was a false messiah.

The Israelites were cautioned against making humans into gods like other cultures of the time. They could very easily have made Moses into a god, written a new book about him, and we could be praying to Moses as well.
