I went in today to get a strand of my hair test permed. Meaning, a small strand went through the process of getting permed to see if my hair will curl right.

The process through this salon was free since she didn't want me to spend a lot of money and it not work out.

How much should I have tipped? If I am able to go through the complete process, and pay out 100$ for it, how much should I tip then?

Thanks.

Tipping is always a funny issue.

At the Day Spa where I go to get my hair / nails done I have yet to ever tip the same amount. It depends on the job that was done, how long it took and frankly if I liked the person doing it.

I have tipped 20.00 on a 50.00 nail job and 2.00 on a 50.00 nail job, same with the hair. They say the rule of thumb is 15 to 18%. I say tip what you feel they have coming. Tipping means : To Insure Promptness.

I'd give her a buck.
for the $100 perm, 15%

I always go by politeness, promptness and having my hair done exactly the way I said I want it done, but , I do consider her time a nd effort also. so it varies ..
