i am looking to get a golden retriever female puppy next year...around feb/march time frame and was wondering if anyone knew of any good ways to come across finding a puppy. i live in melbourne, florida but will travel a few hours. i dont want to have to ship the puppy, i would like to visit with the puppy first and possibly have parents on premises. there arent any adds in the newpapers down here but it is a little soon to look but what about online? or if anyone knows of anyone let me know

ok now i dont mean buy the puppies online, i mean i need websites to find local people around where i live. like i said i dont want to buy a puppy online i want to be able to visit with the puppies first and see the parents of the puppies.

Hi Jennifer,
We have a Golden and they are the best dogs! They love to play, though, so be ready for a "happy" dog!
Couple of ideas: check online for a Golden Retriever Rescue site. Many dog breeds have a central rescue for abandoned dogs. Check with your veterinarians -- they will know of good, reputable breeders. Do not buy at a pet store as they interbreed.

Go to AKC.org and go to the breeder referral section. They will give the the address and phone number of a golden retriever club who can help you get in contact with some breeders.

Oh yeah..online is a GREAT place to find puppies.....puppy mill and puppy for profit puppies that is!!!!! No good breeder would sell their puppies over the internet!!!!
Buyer beware!!!!!
Call a local vet and get the number for the local kennel club. They have a breeders directory. Of they may have breeder clients.

http://www.petfinder.com - click "Shelter and Rescue Groups" in the upper right to find a Retriever Rescue near you. There are thousands of Goldens in Rescue who need a good home.

go to some dog shows, there'll be lots of goldens there. You can meet a lot of people, breeders and owners both, and actually see their dogs.
