"Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord." Colossians 3:18

"...the holy women of the past...were submissive to their own husbands"
1 Peter 3:5

"I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes"
1 Timothy 2:9

I have recieved the worst reactions from this one, now remember these are not my words these are the WORDS OF GOD, so please do not get angry at me.

"12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. 15 But women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety."
1 Timothy 2:12-15

Not trying to leave guy's part out either so here you go:

Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life

Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her

Plus one of the ways God punished men for sinning was making him work hard to provide for his family.

No I am afraid that they are as applicable as they ever were, and a good husband would not use them to control his wife anyhow.

wow I'm surprised at the results so far, when i took these and showed them to some of the so-called Christian girls at my school they scoffed and said I am a total sexist if I agree with them.

I am a Christian woman and those words do not bother me at all. I am also an educated professional who works outside the home. When me and my DH first became engaged we would joke around and say, "Submit!" to one another. But really, it is all about respect, love and being humble with the one you love. It goes both ways.

Because the bible is an archaic and outdated book, filled with myths and legends. And it depends on who's bible you read. There are many different versions of the bible. And not all of them have the same scriptures and passages.

Some of them don't even have the same chapters.

Also? There were many different versions of the New Testament, within the first 100 years of Christ's alleged existence. And at least a dozen or more gospels, that never made it to the present day; at least not in the mainstream editions.

And do you know how the inclusion of the present gospels were decided? By assassination. YES - you read that right. One Christian puts some poison in the tea of another Christian - who has some opposing viewpoints - and BAM! One gospel is chosen over another.

On another note . . .

There is no historical evidence - outside of the bible or some other religious writing - that Jesus ever existed. There were a lot of people during that period of time - and for the next 100 years after - who SHOULD have known of his existence - but didn't.

Nobody wrote about him other than religious groups.

AND NONE of the gospels are eyewitness accounts.

They were all written long after his supposed death.

But I do find YOUR quotation amusing.

It must be one of the 123 or so contradictions in the bible.

To quote: "But women will be saved through childbearing . . ."

To interpret this literally? CHRIST isn't necessary AT ALL - for a woman to be saved. All she has to do? Is bear a child - and do all the other things Timothy - or whatever author is quoting Timothy - said.

Like you said?

THOSE are YOUR so-called "words of God" - NOT MINE!

I like my translation better.

Col. 3:18. Saves the wife. She is to submit to her husband, in the Lord. If he tells her she is trash, that is a lie and not in the Lord. She doesn't have to receive it. If he tells her to rob a bank with Him, it is not in the Lord, so she doesn't have to comply.

In Ephesians the husband & wife are to submit to each other.

1 Tim. 2:9 What is beautiful to God is a gentle spirit. It isn't so much whether others think you look good. It matters more what God thinks. And He calls His bride beautiful. I can have expensive braids done to my hear, or wear expensive clothes, but that isn't what is important.

1 Tim. 12-15 Adam was not deceived, the woman was deceived and she transgressed. Adam ate the forbidden fruit with eyes wide open. He knew God told Him not to eat of it.
Man is suppose to represent Christ. The woman is suppose to represent the Church. So the woman is to submit to the husband like the church is to submit to Christ.

There are God's anointed women teachers who are very strong women of faith. Sometimes there are women preachers of a congregation. So to think that God doesn't call women in leadership positions, think again.

I personally believe a person has to consider the culture of the time when this was written or what was going on with the women of that particular church.

I have a bit of a sore spot about these because people have taken these verses out of context to belittle. That is why I prayed to God about them. God has given me understanding. That is what is important.

because of false understanding of the meaning... as a result of too many domineering men mis-using the very same verses... This is a subject that is only for women to teach women as far as I am concerned... I know very many happy and long lasting marrages that are the result of BOTH the husband and the wife followong those Biblical teachings.... If the truth of the teaching is known and followed the greater burden is on the husband rather than on the wife...by far....

here is a direct link to a page from my website on the general subject of "The Submissive Wife". It is not a compleat teaching by a long shot. but is is both my pov and much in line with my understanding of the intent of the teaching

I am a christian woman and what you have said as opposed to your question do not make a christian woman angry. The words of the lord will not make one angry only edify and build them up. What brought this unknowledgeable question to your head. Perhaps it came from dealing with those that are not spirtual. Do not give that which is holy to the dogs and do not meddle with them that are given to change-meaning direction of life. If a woman do get angry then she is not a christian.

Christianity is a crucial based faith, no longer a rule based faith. The ethics and behaviour of Christians is guided by 2 principals: Love the lord with all your coronary heart, ideas, soul, and potential. And: Love thy neighbor as thy self. The bible is crammed with many policies, a number of which actually contradict one yet another. as a result, many christians (liberals) use the above principals to return to a decision no count if particular policies are nonetheless relevelant or no longer. greater conservative christians attempt to obey all the policies, whether they conflict one yet another. besides the indisputable fact that, the Bible does says that girls all and sundry is meant to cover their hair, a minimum of while praying. Having women human beings's hair coated is a Christian custom relationship decrease back 2,000 years. it incredibly is why nuns conceal their hair even on the instant. besides the indisputable fact that, it has fallen out of style in contemporary cases. for people who say that's a "community" situation, look at a million Corinthians 17-26, the subsequent passage. that's appropriate to the establisment of Communion, a significant sacrement shared by all Christians. If women human beings overlaying their hair is a "community" situation than so is Communion. do no longer hardship to pass the bread or proportion the wine. Communion became purely for the congregation Paul became addressin 1000's of years in the past, no longer you. Technically, conservative, bible believing women human beings could conceal their hair, a minimum of in the event that they are praying. in spite of each and every thing, they like to obey all the guidelines contained in the bible. greater liberal christians in all probability does no longer. they have a tendency to interpret the bible, by a well-liked eye. they do no longer purely do each and every thing the bible says.

Because most men and women don't understand how it works. Most men abuse the power they're given, not doing so in a loving manner as is the command, and most women respond by rebelling because of that. As one of Jehovah's Witnesses, I fully respect the headship arrangement, not because someone tells me to, but because not only do I have respect for God's arrangements, but I also have a wonderful husband who values my intelligence and views me as he should -- as his helper. He loves me very much and I respect his headship because I know he would never intentionally do anything that would be detrimental to me or to our family. He considers my opinions carefully and we discuss everything fully before decisions are made. He is also very confident that I am capable of making household decisions and knows that I too, would do nothing to jeopardize the stability of our marriage or that of our family's happiness. I also greatly appreciate that he has great responsibility before God for my spirituality and that of our children...in fact, he will be held more accountable to God than I will if he fails in his duties in this regard. Women need to come to that realization and appreciate the arrangement instead of 'bucking the system' so to speak, but it would be much easier if men did their part too.

They, in and of themselves, don't bother me. It's when a Christian tries to tell me that these verses mean women should not work, they should be homemakers and they should do what their husbands say, and they can't be members of the clergy. In the church I grew up in (Lutheran, btw), women were not even allowed to serve on the church council. Ridiculous! It's not just unbelievers who take these verses out of context--many believers do too.

They don't bother me at all. Most are for teaching a new church or a church struggling with people who are living in a way to glorify themselves.

A Christian woman who understands the love of God and His word will not be angry at any of these things; she loves His word and takes them in the context they were intended.
