A swift straight knuckle to the wind pipe should take care of the whole situation.

He will drop like a dead weight

I would assist only if assistance was needed. I watched a cabin attendant, barely 5'2" tall, wrap up a 6' hulk of a drunk on a flight from the UK. Sucker never knew what hit him. LOL!

The Purser came back with a couple sets of the nylon straps that the cops use and they hog-tied him and stuck him in a jump seat for the rest of the flight.

Lock his ams behind his back and stand ready to buckle his legs from under him - in much the same way that the police restrain a suspect. After a while most abusive drunks calm down.

Well, if we are far from land, we usually can't do anything about it.
The best you can do is don't say anything and keep calm. If he's sitting next to you, find another seat. If the flight is full, I'm sorry.
I'm a pilot for Boeing 777s and this has happened many times before.

NOTHING until they start losing the battle. Then, I would offer to step on his face until he stops moving, so he could be thrown out the door.
