Click START. Click RUN. Type in CHARMAP.EXE

That will bring up the character map. Browse through the alphabets and fonts (there'll be a lot of them) until you find the character.

Copy and paste it, or look on the bottom right to see the keystrokes needed to make the symbol.

If you are using wordperfect, you click on tools, settings, then choose customize, then keyboards, then click edit. Once you are in edit, choose keystroke, unassign the assigned keystroke (i.e. the letter or number 0) then in the blank box at your left type what you want to be in the (~ key) and hit assign keystroke (this is important cause if you don't do this step it won't take) then hit okay, now for all intents and purpose this key (letter or number 0) will show up as (~) every time you type it until you unassign the key.

If you are just looking for this symbol and not actually wanting to change your keystroke, try Ctrl. W, this will bring up a list of different symbols available, the ascii is also available in the top left hand side of your keyboard next to the number 1) Hope this helps.

In your word processing program. Look to INSERT SYMBOL or CHARACTER. There may be a premade one that you can use.
