You need to go to the PX. They sell military phone cards at reasonable prices. If you have access to a PX or BX, find one there. They're usually AT&T brand cards. If I'm not mistaken though, they convert different than cards you can buy in other stores.

EDIT: I just got an ad in my AAFES bill today for the AT&T military calling card. It's as low as 15 cents per minute from Iraq, Kuwait and Afghanistan when using the 550-unit card. It's available at the local exchange (BX or PX) or online. It says that family and friends can also purchase and recharge cards for troops overseas.

Several "answerers" have given you the correct answer. Purchase AT&T calling cards for your boy friend. The AT&T card can be used everywhere in Iraq, where as many of the "no name" brand cards either won't work at all or they only provide a small fraction of the actual calling time listed on the card. His actual calling time with the AT&T card will be about half the number of minutes listed on the card but it is still the best value for your dollar.. That is why they are sold to service members in the Post Exchanges.

Military members are also allowed access to computers, I think it's 20 minutes per session, so you can E-Mail him from time to time and that will help keep your costs down, but I know, you want to hear his voice. Right!

The next time you call him would you please say "Thank You" to him from me and my family for his sacrifice and service to our country. It is comforting to know there are many fine young men and women, such as your boyfriend, who are willing to keep watch over the country. My family sleeps safe and sound at night over here because of what your boy friend and others like him are doing over there. And "Thank You" to you for shareing him with the country. The wives and girl friends of people in the military are the salt of the earth.

Yeah, any calling card that you buy is going to do that. Get him an AT&T card. I heard that those phone lines are always the shortest, and they get to call their families sooner than the other phone company lines. But anyways, any calling card that you buy will convert to not very miniutes over in Iraq.

Ive always used CallingCards.com and found the cheapest card to make cards where I need to. YOu can find very competitive rates.

As suggested skypes also a good idea. If he has access to a laptop and a microphone its free PC to PC and is usually as good as regular phone quality.

When my b/f was stationed overseas I used AT&T cards from Sam's Club or Costco. They are well worth it because they do not charge you minutes just to make the call. Good luck!
