My credit score is 618 and I want to refinace for a lower interest rate. Should I wait till it's up a lil and also how long does it take for points to go up on my credit

what can you do about medical collections clogging up your credit report after a major illness? I am still waiting on my disablity claim to settlle and after I receive the money what is the best way to pay them and get them to take it off my report? Somone actually told me not to pay them becasue they won't remove the bad report even after its paid, is this true?
