Hell came from the Old English word "hellen" which means to bury. When someone goes to hell they are going to the grave. We are all going to hell (the grave) but not to a place of eternal torment like the churches would have you believe. The churches used the fear of eternal torment to control the masses. Think about it; would you worship a God that tormented humans eternally?

Plus it was an underworld and an afterlife for men who didn't die valiantly in battle. It isn't a fiery pit but it's the same general idea, you didn't do what Thor/Odin/God/Quetzalcoatl told you to, go suffer for eternity.

So I'd say they probably did.

No! Christians did not create "hell" by adding another "l" to the word "hel" from the norse mythology.

Hell is a very real place. All those who reject Jesus Christ will go there as punishment for having sinned against God.

The Word of God says that it is appointed unto man once to die and after this the judgment. (Hebrews 9:27)Evey human being will stand before God and be judged for the moral life he/she lived. If the person died in his/her sins God sends him/her to hell to be tormented for all eternity as punishment for having rebelled or sinned against God. If the person died with having all his/her sins forgiven then he/she will go to Heaven.

How does a person get his/her sins forgiven? By believing on, and receiving Jesus Christ as his/her personal Lord and Savior.

Hell is a very real place. Jesus talked more about hell then He did about Heaven.

God is a holy God and requires all that stand in His presence to be holy.(1 Peter 1:15) It is impossible for any human being to be be without sin. (Romans 3:23)

God demonstrated His love for you by having His Son Jesus Christ die for you. (Romans 5:8) That means, Jesus Christ took God's judgment for your sins upon Himself so you could escape God's judgment. (1 John 2:2)

If you believe that you are a sinner, and that Jesus Christ paid for your sins, then you can be saved from the penalty of sin (hell) by asking Jesus to forgive you of your sins, to come live in your heart, and be the Lord of your life. (Romans 4:24-25, Hebrews 5:9)

Would you not want to live with a God who loved you enough to make a way for you to esacpe His judgement (hell)?

it's a good possibility.
they took so many traditions and stories and reworded them or changed them outright to make them their own.
