Yes and Paxil is horrible. I took it for a couple of years and hated it. It made me feel worse and if I ran out even for a day or two, I experienced weird sensations of dizziness and it scared me. A neurologist told me that it is a psychotropic drug and has the same physiological effects that hallucinogens have. Be careful.

YES!! About 13 years ago when Paxil was new I took it. Although it definitely helped I had always been 110lbs, and on Paxil I gained 25 pounds. Mostly around my midsection and surprisingly my chest! The first 10 within 3 months. The Doctor told me that I must be eating more but I knew I wasn't. He looked at me like I was crazy. After about a year I went off of it but the weight never went away until just recently. Now I've read studies that this is the worst antidepressant relating to weight gain. I knew I was right 13 years ago!

I wish people would quit asking about weight gain with antidepressants. First of all, before you start any drug, you should ask your doctor everything about it--including side effects. If you don't want to, or he acts like he doesn't have the time to answer, invest in a PDR (Physicians Desk Reference) or the small paperback called something like the Pill Book that will give this information.

ALL these drugs will cause weight gain to some degree. The key is like with everything else--you need to regulate your diet and maintain a steady exercise regimen. None of these drugs are panaceas that will magically cure you of one problem without causing something else to erupt.

What's the more important issue? Gaining weight or controlling the depression? Put things into perspective.
