No, but the medication prescribed for bipolar may cause seizures. Ask your pharmacist for a list of the side affects of your medicine. He can print out a list. I got mild seizures from Zyprexa. My boyfriend and I are both bipolar. That is not the cause of seizures.....)(

Not that I've ever heard of, but meds for treating bipolar disorder, if given to someone who doesn't have this condition, can cause seizures.

(I ended up in the hospital for two weeks because a doctor decided that chronic pain is -invariably- caused by psychological problems and put me on a medication that he -said- was to reduce the pain. While I was in the hospital, a friend looked up info about that med online for me and found out that it is -only- used for bipolar disorder. I distrust doctors most of the time because of things like this. Feel free to disregard anything I say...)

Kiddo, you're awesome. Are you smiling when you read that? Lemme say it again....You're totally awesome. Are you smiling? Then 'Yes' you will 'out grow' your current state of mind. But the diagnosis is something that you might have to live with for a bit for now. It takes a doctor to know what the details are with you. And you are just as normal as everyone else. As you grow into an adult and continue therapy, you will most like tapper off some medications maybe try some new ones. The good news, you're talking drugs! You're the cool bad *** in school. Therapy is never a 'one stop shop' it's a continuing thing, think of it like a hobby. Like wood craving, except building a ship in a bottle, you're building a better you. And as an adult you'll have a little more say about how you want your therapy to develop. Did you forget that you're awesome while reading this? If you're still reading this with a smile then you're on your way. If you're not smiling then you gotta little more work to do.

I don't think bipolar causes seizures but I think some of the meds used to treat it can. See your doctor.

I am bipolar - seizures never occur nor are they even a symptom according to the DSM-IV diagnostic manual for psychiatrists. No, the meds may cause seizures though. Good luck.

Curiously enough, anti-seizure medication is given to regulate bipolar disorder. (Topomax is one) So since seizures and bipolar disorder are apparently helped by the same drug, maybe you can have seizures along with bipolar disorder. It would make sense to me.

No Bi- Polar does not cause seizures but the medications that are used to treat Bi-Polar symptoms can. Even though these meds are also used to treat Seizures. Crazy huh? Topomax,Tryleptal,Depakote,Depakeen all treatments for Bi-Polar but they can cause seizures and they are also used to controll seizures in an epileptic person.
