In Batavia, NY; five parents asked to have their children transferred out of a class that was being taught by a transsexual teacher. The request was denied. According to the Superintendant of Schools, the written requests by the parents did not meet the guidelines of the district.

According to state and federal laws, a person with a transsexual disorder is considered disabled and thereby protected from discrimination.

I don't think a teacher's ability to educate our children would be affected by the fact they are a transsexual. So I would have to say no. Some people are afraid that a person's sexual preference is going to rub off on them or others if they socialize with or accept them as who they are. Maybe these people are afraid this person will teach the children his/her personal beliefs/sexual preferences. I know a few homosexuals that don't try to influence me to indulge in their lifestyle. Society fears what they do not understand.

It wouldn't bother me at all as long as he or she was a good teacher. The world we live in is full of many different cultures, races, classes, and so forth. It's important for children to be exposed to these kinds of things especially early on in life while they are still developing their own ideas about society. It's not like the teacher would be prancing around the class room in a glittery get up trying to convert the kids. Come on. How ridiculous is it that this teacher is accepted by the kids but not by the parents. I just don't see a problem.

No, not at all. If the teacher was transitioning in the middle of the school year, that might be an issue because it would be difficult to explain to children. Otherwise, why should it matter, any more than a teacher suddenly coming back with bigger breasts or a pregnancy belly or hair loss from chemotherapy after summer break?

No, it does not difficulty me the least bit. it may well be comparable to anybody else. No, besides the fact that it would difficulty me if the college board refused to hire a instructor while you evaluate that individual became into transsexual. No, and that i do no longer think of it is going to matter to anybody. human beings look to have faith that being transsexual is a few thing that childrens may well be prompted into. it is as ridiculous as "gay instructors are going to make our babies gay". i think of maximum anybody is in desperate want of coaching whilst it comprises transsexual/transgender persons. i'm so sorry approximately your activity concern.

I'd be mad if it's denying my religous beliefs and when you say trassexual do u mean like he had surgery. Either way my belief would not allow this it would indoctrinate my kids and I don't want a gov telling ppl it's okay to be gay or whatever because it's wrong. Am i perfect no but i wouldn't have my child falsely indoctrinated into thinking changing their gender is correct or moral

Not as long as they were a certified teacher. I've got 3 teenagers, and the only thing that would bother me about any of their teachers would be if they were incompetent and unable to teach the required material.

If it wasnt an issue, if it became a problem then yeah I wouldnt like it. Although all humans have issues, but if the teachers private life stayed out of the classroom then no big deal.

I'd rather have a Transsexual as a teacher than a teacher that attempts to teach religious beliefs to children without the parents' approval anyday.

Well, I'm not sure if this is a religious or spiritual question in this sense but would I have a problem with it....Maybe.....Unless I got to meet them and see if they were cool. Probably more out of curiosity, but since I have no experience with talking to one, that's why I say maybe

Wouldn't bother me at all. I think it would bother me more if they were trying to get a sex change but were continuously denied, or it was illegal or something... because then I'd have a very depressed, sad person feeling like they aren't the right gender teaching my kids. I want someone who is true to their inner feelings and represents how they truly see themselves- if that means they needed a gender change to do so, more power to them!
