Check your manual for output, if it is the newer firewire and your computer has the correct compatible firewire it is very easy. If you have the RCA (yellow, white, red cable) jack then it's alittle more complex. Your computer must have the correct inputs to download.

The quality all depends on the speed of your computer. If you are just downloading for copies for family and friends without much editing then purchase a DVD recorder\player. This will skip the whole computer configuring standard.

If you want to edit and do special effects then I recommend Adobe Premiere Elements. Get the Photoshop elements while you're at it.

If you have an older, analog camcorder, you will need to get an analog to digital converter first. Look in the manual that came with your camcorder. It will tell you how to hook it up to your computer. You should also have a CD that came with your camcorder that you will have to install in order to download from your camcorder.
