This is a fun question. I believe in God, so don't trash me.

psalms 150:33 Smitted their fig trees
Jeremiah 24:2-3 naughty figs couldn't be eaten
Jeremiah 29:17-18 make them like vile figs
Hosea 2:12 destroy vines and fig trees
Math 21:19 No figs, so kills the tree!

In every one of these verses, God is destroying, or rebuking FIGS AND FIG TREES! I'm serious.

No more fig newtons for me!

Look back to the days of Solomon...In his kingdom, everyone had a fig tree...If you do a study in the word, fig tree spiritually represents peace and financial security. Solomon's kingdom pretty much represented what living in peace would be like.

Now go read those scriptures you mentioned keeping that in mind...People who are supposed to be walking with the Most High and are being hateful...their fig trees will not thrive.

Those same scriptures are applicable to today's hateful Christians.

In the Matthew account you mentions, the Romans taxed the tree of the Jew. The jew couldn't afford to keep the tree if it did not produce and they would kill it.

The Matt 21 parable is directed to the Jewish nation as shown in verse 43.

They did not produce fine spiritual fruitage and is rebuked.
They same will happen to false christian religions that do not produce the spiritual fruit Jesus requires.

Mat 21:43 That is why I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce fruit for it

I believe in that region of the world, figs were a fairly lucrative business, that would be why. The desert is a poor place to raise corn.
