Not unless you rub the fronts of your teeth on him. Just keep your lips over your teeth, it sounds like you know what you're up to.
Retainers, on the other hand, need to come out during the fun. You really wouldn't want the coronal ridge to get caught against the back of the retainer, pop it off your teeth, and get stuck that way.
(Thankfully, this is NOT one of those lessons I had to learn the hard way. :-)

I don't really think you should be concerned with this. But all I can say is they will make your teeth straight and hopefully boost your self confidence as well.
