Dogs tend to have dry skin. A friend of mine said once a month. But my dog often gets too dirty to wait that long. If you mix a regular shampoo for people with water over the dog to help wet it so that you do not use so much then it will spread out further and you will not have to use so much of it such that it will be less drying. One of the best things to use for washing a dog with when it is very dirty especially if your dog has a flea problem is a mixture of Dawn Dishwashing liquid and citronella. But I do not recall the mixture required as to parts per each for mixing. Maybe it is used to make a spray on the dog I use to use it on my cats and it worked very well better than many poisonous products.

I have found with my dogs that if I bathe them with dog shampoo more often than every two weeks (which would be twice per month at the most!) they tend to get dry, flaky, itchy skin. So that is as often as I bathe them with shampoo. The rest of the time, in between shampoo baths, if they manage to get too cruddy or muddy (which they are great at doing) I rinse them off with clear water (no soap or shampoo of any kind) and that cleans them up pretty nicely without taking any oils out of their skin or coats. Also, you should try to never bathe a dog with anything other than a shampoo that is formulated for dogs or you could really run into some dry or itchy skin issues. Hope this helps!

Unless your dog gets into something dirty once a month is best. dogs have very sensitive skin and the more you bath them the more problems they can have.
If you insist on bathing the dog more often then this make sure you use an oatmeal shampoo they are much more mild and provide more moisture to the dogs skin.
You can also buy these special wipes for inbetween baths, they work great, you can buy them at petstores.

I know they can really smell sometimes, but bathing can be bad for their skin. You have so many responses here that recommend frequent bathing and it wrong. Some breeds can be bathed more that others, but they don't produce skin oils like we do and you can really dry them out with too many bathings. I suggest that if they are funky try using a powder bath...there are lots of them on the market and they help freshen up the coat. A good coat brushing helps a lot too, it will remove the loose fur and all the little funky stuff they pick up from rolling around and playing outside. If the dog is really nasty bathe them in a very gentle shampoo designed for dogs. If your dog is proned to hot spots or flaky skin you might want to pick one that has oatmeal in it to help from dying them out too much. But seriously dont over bathe or you will pay for it later.

It really depends on a few factors. What kind of dog is it? Dogs with a longer coat need grooming more often. Is the dog kept indoors? More active dogs, who spend alot of time outside will need more baths.

You can bathe an adult dog as often as needed, just use a mild pet shampoo.

When you can't stand the smell of your dog anywhere near you is a good indication that a bath is needed. lol. Seriously, I do not think that there is a set grooming need for any dog, just when you believe you should bathe your dog is when you do.

As often as needed. I bathe all my dogs (as well as some clients dogs) once a week. Shampoo is NOT bad, nor will it ruin a dogs skin/coat (that's an old myth) as long as you use a GOOD quality mild shampoo followed by a conditioner and rinse rinse rinse.

Depends on the breed and whether or not it is an inside dog or an outside dog. My pugs are inside dogs and they get bathed once a week.
