Everyone in the military makes the same amount of money based on rank/rate. So every E1 with under 4 months in gets $1178.10 a month and every O-10 with over 26 years gets $14196.30 a month. Not to mention if they are married they will get money for food about $250 a month and depending on where they live they get money for housing so lets say anywhere from $600 to $1500 a month. If you only made minimum wage (5.15 an hour), with 40 hours a week that is only $824 before taxes. So an E1, lowest rank out there is making more than minimum wage. And most E1 live in the barracks for free and eat at the chow hall for free. If you look at it in just a monetary value then yes they get paid pretty well, but for what they do and the time they miss from friends and family no. Just like everything else the longer you stay and the more rank (promotion) the more money.

For a single person the Army pays great. Calculated out it comes out to about $35K a year. Thats if you eat the food the army provides and dont go out for good. The army food isnt that bad from what I hear either. Rents free, medical is free and just about everything else is free. No bills! $1400 a month in spending money for starters. Its not the biggest amount but I am not joining for the money nor do most of the other people that join.

No the enlisted do not make very much money. Actually alot of military families have to go and get food stams so they can support there family. We did pretty good when it was both myself and my husband were active duty...But that was 2 incomes and we also spent about 1000 a month for daycare.

And as for benifit's you have to pay for your own glassess they will give you a free exam on basse (if you can get int) and the dental you get free cleaning and exam but have to pay 20% of the bill for anything else.

The only time you do not have to pay for housing is one if you are in the barracks ( So I guess do not have a family) then your food is paid for.

If you have a famiily and there is open military housing (San Diego is 2 yrs or more for housing unless you had family members that EFM and it had to be 4 or 5 that execptional family member..i.e. MAJOR health problems.) You have to pay for your own food when you live out in town..

And ALL military have a basic pay rate that all service member's get the sam basic pay for the same rate...

Oh yeah after my husband had given 8 years they found a heart problem with him and discharged him with NO benifits and the VA is not compinsating him even tough the heart problem was found while active duty...Took him 7 months to find a job...

So just how good do they treat the military members?? That is what I ask you. I am so proud of my experience and so is he. He did not whant to get out. We have much pride in ourself's for serving. But I think it is sad when somebody gives as much as my husband did and the just cr*p on him.

His ship was the first to fire on afganistan..He was part of the team. He did search and sizure on illegal ships trying to smugle oil and fire arms....and he became military police after 9/11 to protect. Then he helped the San Diego police when the fires were spreading down there.

The army will give you $100 then take back $99. The soldiers make a lot less than their civilian counterpart. In otherwords, no they don't get paid well.
Not to mention they end up working around 60-80hrs a week, and are on call 24hrs a day, 7days/wk and 365 days a yr. Much worse than the rest of us if you ask me!

As soldiers increase in rank they can earn more. Those that have tights budgets, no excess expense or debts, and live and eat on base can manage to save soem money. There are some with families and lower in rank that qualify for food stamps, or other government assistance.

no you don't make alot of money. from my brother's experience in the marines this is what he told me, army follows almost the same pay grade. you do not have to pay for a place to live, if you live on barracks you don't pay for food ( not 100% sure about that though ). if you are married you will get paid more and can chose to live off base and the army will pay for the apt ( my brother had an apt ), but you can get a house on base. if you are stationed in iraq or afghanistan you get hazard pay and if you join a specific MOS you get paid more. from what army recruiters have told me, if you join at the end of the month they give you a bigger enlistment bonus spread over your enlistment time, however many years that is. they also pay a certain amoutn of money for college, up to $40,000 i think. if you have no debts before you join and you are single, you can make good money. i no people in the marines who were married and served in iraq. they had apts off base which the marines paid for, they were in iraq and their wives were back with their families. so no one used the apt and they rec the rent money for the apt, plus hazard pay for being in iraq, and their normal salary. when they got out of the marines they saved a good deal of money. but essentially you make less than a panhandler a year, according to time magazine. you just have to remember that the army will provide the most basic and sometimes most expensive needs, such as cost of living and cost of health insurance. hope that helps.

No not really and they are deployed very often and for long periods of time. But their means are met and if you have no other option due to no formal education or or money to get one, it is a smart move. The military can pay off over time if you make it into a career.

Enlisted soldiers - Privates through Sergeants, earn $14,500 minimum (brand new recruits) up to $65,000 for Sergeants with many years of service.

Officers - Lieutenants to Generals, earn $29,000 to $170,000, again depending on rank and length of service.

In addition, soldiers can earn housing stipends, combat pay, remote duty pay and get full health care.

Overall, pay has improved for the military, but boooooooooy do they earn it.

I thank them all for their service.

No when you have to look at all they have to do to protect the American people is sure in the hell is not enough money. I feel that these people should be paid more money for what they do, what they have to sacafice, and where they have to go and be away from their family and friends. If it was up to me these men and women should be making money like congressmen and women.
