IT'S A METAPHOR. BABTIZING IS THE WASHING AWAY OF THE SINS AFTER REPENTANCE. THE BLOOD STANDS FOR WHEN JESUS DIED ON THE CROSS.

Yes, it is the only thing that can wash away all our sins. It is applied spiritually to our hearts and lives the very moment we get saved. The Holy Spirit comes into our hearts and applies the blood ( not literally ) and makes us a new creature.

There have been very informng answers to this question, as if you had been asking it for real insight. I do find it strange that the people who have answered with a legitimate answer, are the ones who recieve a thumbs down from other posters.

How does that work? Are the ones who truly answer you question with an answer that tells you what they believe to be a correct answer according to their beliefs, wrong, thus deserving of a thumb down rating?

I seriously think that those people are scared of actually learning something about someone elses beliefs becasue they themselves do not have a firm faith in their own belifs, thus follow along with a trend and having no opinion of their own.

Sad they all must be. And you all call Christians sheep, at least we believe in something, you lot seem to not even believe in yourselves enough to have your own honest opinion.

The blood was applied at the very moment Jesus stated up on the cross at Calvary "it is finished".

All that is left now is to accept this sacrifise or to reject it. There is an inbetween the neither Hot nor cold, but that is worse according to the bible than rejecting it.

I read some ancients had a practice of placing followers of theirs religion in a pit and sacrificing a bull above the pit so they would literally be washed in blood to take away their sins.

That is a very complex question, and different churches and theologians have different answers. But in general the blood refers to the shedding of Jesus' blood, which has already happened.

It's symbolism silly.
Basically Jesus kinda declared that the red wine they drank at the last supper signified his blood. You don't take a bath in it, you drink it, and that's why you have little cups of wine at communion. The bread, by the way, if you're interested is the body of Christ. (Jesus declared that at the last supper too.) Which is why you also have bread at communion.

Check out Hebrews 9: 11-28
The primary point is that by Jesus willingly shedding His blood, all we have to do is admit that we need forgiveness and accept His sacrifice for our sins.

There's nothing more that needs to be done. "For it is by grace that we have been saved, not by works that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8-9

the blood was already applied, through the Crucifixion, now all we have to do is accept and acknowledge Jesus as whom he said he was and we too.......have washed ourselves in the blood of Christ, for once we do that................we MUST live and DEMONSTRATE the teachings of our Master.
