If there is any way possible to tell who it belongs to I would try to get it back to them. But I certainly wouldn't just turn it over to a clerk in the store or anything.

Myself I would return the money. Make sure you talk to two people and request they put something in writing that you return the money left in the atm. This way the bank can not come back and say you stole the money.

Most ATM's have cameras and you would be the one who was questioned as soon as the money was reported as left behind. They probably wouldn't attempt to prosecute but the chance is still there. Also, the morallity of taking someone elses money is there. You never know, Grandma may have been just getting her cash out to pay for this months perscriptions and her slowly slipping mind prevented her from remembering to take it out of the ATM slot. Think of it from the other side before you act.

Return it to the bank and let them straighten it out. It probably belongs to the last person who went through the ATM before you. You may be tempted to keep it but just think, "If I was that person what would I want me to do"????? Then do that.

Return it to the bank, so they can determine if it belongs to the last person who used the ATM.

Go back to the bank...and return it....remember that little mirror is not there for you to check your lipstick...it is a camera which attaches video to each transaction...all i would have to do is look to see who came next (that would be you) after the person left the money...

The "right" thing to do, which no one would ever do...is to call the bank and notify them of the ref 3 on your transaction and tell them the amount of cash you found. The bank could then notify the correct person.

I would pocket the cash, personally.

the right thing to do is to take it into the bank and turn it in to the teller explaining what happened.

the problem is that the teller will put the cash in their pocket and never do what is right with it and if they do then the next person up the chain will rip it off.

the good thing is you can go to sleep knowing you did the right thing

OK you have 3 choices:
a) leave money there.
b) try to find who it belongs to.
c) take it

Most people would say the right thing is to give it to who it belongs to. But to be honest i would take it if i were in need. Hopefully that tells you the answer.
