I've asked her plenty of times to tell me what it feels like and what i should do with some of her sysptoms, but it's hard for me to understand cuz sometimes she can't tell me becuase she's in pain or very tired. Then she takes medicine and really falls asleep. I'm not used to being with anyone that has MS and I just wanted to see if anyone would give me some advice.

it's an autoimmune disease, in which the body produces antibody to the schwann cells in the central nervous system. Schwann cells produce a product called myelin which insulates nerves and allows them to conduct impulses freely and cleanly.

In MS, these cells are attacked, degraded, and ultimately destroyed, resulting in major neurological complications. It's a slow and progressive disease. With proper treatment, the symptoms can be slowed for many many years, and many people with MS can be relatively symptom free for a long time.

However, it is progressive, meaning there is no cure, and while it can be slowed, it cannot be stopped. Damage to the central nervous system is irreparable, and irreversible. Unfortunately with MS, people report a variety of symptoms later in the disease progression, from loss of motor control, to widespread systemic pain.

Keep her going to see her doctor, and make sure she goes regularly for treatment and appointments. What may be a hassle and painstaking now can buy her years of quality life later.

My daughter was recently diagnosed and her significant other has the same problem. Just help her out with the things that she cant do now. If you see that something needs done do it. Help her get her meals . Help her when ever and where ever you can. Be kind and patient this is really much harder on her than you. Remind her that shes loved with the little things like helping out and flowers and Making sure shes eating and getting her meds and going to her apointments. Thats all showing her you care.
You cant feel what shes feeling and I,m sure she would,nt want you to. Its a painful disease and its debilitating as well.
Hang in there and your rewards will come back to you 10 fold.

There might be some things you will never fully understand about what she's going through. Just being there for her and helping as much as you can is enough. She's probably dealing with a lot of things herself and maybe she doesn't know how to explain what she's feeling. Just standing by her like you're doing is perfect. Good job.

This is a tough question. I have MS and it is just hard to understand it Doctors do not fully understand it. All I can say is just be there for her and let her know that you are there for her. When she feels like talking well listen.
