I'm sorry, but I'm just a little older from that generation where ANY reference to the "n" word makes my hair stand up. I don't care what color you are, if they're your "homeys" or whatevah, black people fought and died to be treated with respect, and it all starts with how we talk to each other.
I realize that's off topic, and you're just talking the way everybody else does. Just think about it, OK?
Otherwise, all I would suggest is try to get him away from everything else. Like give him the "come here" finger or something, and talk to him. Break the ice by getting him to talk about HIS summer, and THEN drop it on him. "..I have to tell you, I was thinking about you this summer, and I'd really like to go out with you... What would you think about that?"
And then here's a little secret: After you ask him, look at him in the eyes, but don't say another thing until he answers you! You'll want to say something else because you'll be nervous, but DONT. Make him talk.
