This is my second relationship like this and honestly I am having some difficulty because I am trying to accomplish alot in life and push myself through to the next level and it seems as though he is trying to get jump started. He is a good guy but I just want to know if it is realistic to be in a relationship with a person who is so many worlds apart from you and who also does not have the same work ethics as I do?

It doesn't seem like this guy is going to add much to love to your life. You want someone who makes you strive to be a better person, and this guy's jus not doing it. It is one thing to date a man with criminal history who's changed or has severe remorse. Someones uncle I know was in and out of prison for about 20 years, and one day he says he found Jesus, and he's been out of trouble and off drugs ever since. So, in some cases, it would be possible to have a relationship. In this case? Probably not.

How do you define "criminal" history? Ask yourself if his history goes against yours. Of course it is possible to be in a relationship with a person who feels like he is far away and who also doesn't share the same values as you do. But is it a good idea, and can it work? I honestly don't think so.

Why does he feel far away? If the reason is not something significant, then your relationship will never be as close as it is meant to be.

What sort of values does he hold? If it really bothers you that they clash against your own, the relationship will never work.

Rarely do people change. Talk to your boyfriend and deeply/logically/objectively evaluate your relationship and don't just go along with your emotions. You have a lot of reflecting to do, but don't lose heart.

Of coarse it's possible. Espicially if he's a good person. When you are single is most important to really pay attention to who your getting to know. If you knew his background, then you shouldn't have got involved if you had higher standerds for yourself. I am not trying to be mean, because I am in a realationship now too,and i am trying to get ahead and sometimes it seems like she is holding me down, but I don't care now-because i love her and I won't give up on her because I know she is a great person. She has a long criminal history also. Actually we are going to court again on thursday. But she has came a long way. She used to be on drugs and all kinds of stuff. But she has shown me that people do change. And nobody is perfect.Just make sure that he is TRYING and is making an effort to better his life. It is hard to break it off after you start to love the person. Well...GOOD LUCK to you both!!

It's certainly possible but it's not a good idea. Be very careful if he has been in trouble for any violent crimes, especially against women.

Even without the criminal background, the difference in your work ethics and stations in life is a real obstacle. You would really be better off with someone you have more in common with.

If you have different goals to your partner and feel as though he may be holding you back express this to him now because sooner or later the issue will surface and things will only have become more complicated.
