'Well I know cinnamon will eliminate ants, and slugs will be taken out by salt. As far as the bugs, You can put the food in one dish, and sit it in a larger, flat dish, like a pie pan full of water. This will take care of crawling bugs. The flies are a different subject all together. I remember being told that fly's can be deterred by putting fresh bay leaves in water, in a spray bottle, and spraying the area. You have to respray often, it worked for a while around Our doors. Bugs hate bay leaves as well, that is why some put them in their food pantries.

Good Luck

There are great pet safe products that you can use to spray around your house and keep buggies away. However, nothing is 100% effective and you'll still have stray bugs in the food. Your cat does not mind, I'm sure. Mine eat the bugs in their food, they think it is a treat. If the bugs bother you, feed the kitties inside.

There is no reason to have a cat's food outdoors. Feed in the morning and feed in the evening. Your cat should always be indoors at night anyway and it will come for its evening meal if you just make a habit of feeding at dusk.

Feed them less. Cats really don't eat much, maybe a table spoon a meal, no matter how much they cry.

if you must feed her outside give only what she will eat, and then clean the bowl, until the next feeding.
