As the human race develops and becomes more advanced, will humans look to science instead.

I’m English and I know that in my country at least , religion is becoming seriously diluted.

At first it was just Christians but now Muslims are getting a lot more relaxed about there beliefs. Most of the people over here that call themselves Christians only do it because they enjoy Christmas or like the grandeur of getting married in a church, they don’t actually believe any of it.

I mean in a few hundred years when science will allow us to cure all disease, make cripples walk and blind people see, will the people living on mars still be praying to god?

I'll answer your question with a question. What do you think religion will prove in the next 100 years?

Science will almost certainly prove that life is common in the universe, that intelligent life exists on other earth-like planets, will control human evolution, and hopefully will prove whether the universe was created or otherwise, although the chances of any God being involved are remote.

Hopefully science will provide proof that God doesn’t exist and the universe contains an abundance of intelligent life-forms, then finally humans may come to their senses and stop killing each other in the name of God or religion.

What has religion achieved for the past 2000 years?

Science has exploded with its contribution to humanity over the past 2000 years. Humans live on average so much longer. Contributions from technology, medicine, information, communication, discoveries about the universe, education, health, travel, food, the list is endless.

Religious people are quick to suggest that God gave humans the ability to use science to help humanity, and therefore God deserves the credit.

In the same vein then, what has God helped religion achieve over the past 2000 years? Religion is responsible for the majority of wars, conflict and murder of innocent life since humanity began.

For eons, the blame of volcanic eruptions, thunderstorms, the relationship between the sun and moon, and even death itself have been laid upon that of a spiritual entity or entities in one form or another. So as the mysteries behind many of them slowly evaporate under gleaming sun of science, it's understandable to assume our increasingly intelligent and worldly species would naturally grow out of the belief that a mysterious, omnipotent being is behind the curtain pulling the strings.

Human beings have, since the beginning, searched for and attempted to explain what they do not immedeately know or understand beyond the shadows of all doubt. I have a strong feeling that as long as humans exist in the universe, we'll never really know what's going on beyond the boundaries of it. Because of that, it's safe to say the world will remain populated by those who feel comforted by following scripture that they feel explains what they believe to be the truth, even if others do not. What I hope for our species to accomplish more then outgrowing religion, is that we learn to accept the fact that billions of others living on the same rock don't necessarily see it the same way.

I don't accept the premise of your argument. Beliefs wax and wane throughout history and people will believe, not believe afresh in every new generation. If God has made us to increase in knowledge and to cure seemingly incurable diseases and to advance to the stage of living on Mars, why would that stop us believing?

Probably not, but I do believe that, with the passing of time, the numerous branches of religions will merge with one another into a few primary classifications. Humans use religion as a means of hope, and hope comforts those in emotional need. Without the need for comfort, we cease to be humans - - instead, we become mere instruments of logic and cause/effect relationships. This truly is what differentiates us from animals and computers.

added to those things you mentioned,,, needy people had created god through 1000 years of living in the cave ,,,,,,,, and religions came ,one by one afterwards. and unfortunately will take another 1000 years to see the proper Secular society.

just to remind you that UK, is very religion country compare with Germany, France or Scandinavian

also we should make sure that,,, CIA and MI5 would never use the political islam as a tool [ as they did during the cold war against Russia] and now we facing the islamist terrorist which is threatening civilised society...

Some years ago on Radio 4s Thought for the day program, the right reverend whoever said the following....
We as christians are emotional cripples who need the crutch of god to help us walk the path of life.
Says it all really....as long as billions of people are willing to be stupid, then religion will flourish.

Your question is a very clever one..what with all this corruption of drugs, drink, gambling, porn, people dont seem to have a care in the world as they are too wrapped up in this play and amusement..I think media has a major role in all this, and to be honest I think it is to eliminate all religions and faith of God to enable the whole of society to follow just one system..As a convert to Islam I believe that the world will end one day, as in the quran it is called judgement day, where we will all be raised up and accounted of all our actions in our lifetime. Many people are straying onto this one sytem which behind it is full of people of evil and greed of money and riches..the only people that will be praying to God in this world of increasing advancement are the strong, firm and true believers that this life is only temporary.

it will never happen - people will always believe in something - whether it be some random belief from some sad-do in a lab re-creating a myth. people need something to hope for. that is what it seems to be about. hope that this is not every thing. That we go on. that something is far greater than our own mere existence.
if not ------then why are we here .......the question we always seek the answer to......not answered apparently until we are dead,,,them re-incarnated. pause for thought......we have time.....but not too much.

Verily, verily. People who are dissatisfied with their religion goes to alternative. New Age offers that alternative. Science, on one hand, can unload the burdens of once in the area of belief, but I doubt if it ca totally replace it in the future.

I agree with what Neiztsche says about the whole thing, that religion was a necessary crutch for humans several hundred years ago but it's time to evolve out of our need for it.
