My husband started breeding American Pit Bull Terriers like 3 years ago, so I have quite a bit experience with the breeding of these dogs. Do not breed your female until she is about 2 years old. APBT have unusually large litters 10-14 puppies at a time, and if you breed them too young it could either kill the mother or cause serious complications, which will cause you alot of money. Doggy C-sections run like $2000-$2500 plus it is horrible for the dog!! When the dog is ready to breed, she will be pregnant for approximately 60-65 days. There are numerous signs of when she will deliver, come back and ask when she grows up some. Good Luck to you, you're gonna need it. :) I hope you have read up on the breed to some extent because if not you have no idea what you are in for. Mating APBT's is quite different than the experience of having a smaller litter of puppies. Prepare yourself before you jump in for this HUGE ADVENTURE!! Good Luck:)

What is an American Pittbull? I know that a rednose is a way of describing a pittbull with a reddish-brown nose. All pittbulls are American Pitt Bull Terriers. Then of course there are also American Bulldogs. Sounds to me like you shouldn't be breeding. Do you have papers on both of your dogs?? Are they the same breed? Do you show them??
But since you'll do it anyway, you should wait until your female is 3-4 years old, that way she has a chance to develop all the way, and decrease the chances of complications from breeding.

Most people reccomend that the female be at least 18 months old but no older than 3 or 4 when you begin breeding. The older she is the harder the pregnancy is. Most dogs are pregnant for 8 or 9 weeks.

The male is ready at about a year and a half, and the female shouldn't breed before two and a half.Waiting until the female is fully matured gives better pups, and the chance of the dame having complications durring delivery significantly decreases. Also gestation period for a dog is two or three months depending on the dog

Have them both fixed. There are tons of pitbulls out there that are needing homes. In fact in the one of the local cities here, at least 150 had to be given up because it was against the law to have them in the city. The city just didn't enforce the law and all of a sudden they had to and everyone had to relinquish their pitbulls or face some steep fines.

Why don't you skip it all together . Pit Bulls are over bred enough as it is. Any ways females should be 2 years of age and males also ,with the appropiate testing done first. You should have homes lined up for the puppies well in advance before they are born.

You can start breeding them as soon as the female starts to bleed {have her period} although i think you should at least wait until she is about 2 or 3 years old. It is not healthy to breed them the first time they start to bleed and it is also not healthy to breed her everytime she starts to bleed in other words "back to back". they stay pregnant for 9 to 11 months
and it is also very very very unsafe to breed any dog over the age of 10 they could die!!!!!
My family raised me around pitbulls, my dad owns 6 of them and i have one myself, thats how i know!!!!!

If your thinking you will make money by selling puppies you won't. Puppies are a lot of work and require lots of care. They need food shots and deworming. You shouldn't even think about breeding until they are 2 or 3 and have finished their championships.
