In the 1950's the roles of men and women were more defined. Men were the breadwinners, they went out and worked and earned the paycheck, they came home and expected their dinner on the table. Women mainly stayed home and took care of the house and the kids. When women did work outside the home they were limited in the jobs available to them- teachers and nurses mostly. Pregnancy and sex were forbidden topics to talk about in public. Nobody cussed, well, most people didn't, at least in public. Women wore dresses all the time, girls could only wear skirts and dresses to school, pants were totally unacceptable. Watch "Leave it to Beaver" or "Father Knows Best" and shows from the late 50's and early 60's.

Personally I love the 50's it's my most favorite era in history.Women in the 50's were supposed to cook and clean and tend to the children and the men had to go to work.Basically the moms taught the daughters everything they know and the fathers do the same with the sons.In spare time women liked to go to the beauty parlor or knit and men liked to watch football and play sports with the guys and their sons.Family time was very important and every night families sat down together to watch tv.It was a nice time. The only bad thing about the 50's were the rascists and segregation, that was sad and wrong.
