I asked a reverend how she knows that god exists and does all the things that she says he does, and she said that she knows through faith. But faith and knowledge seem almost like opposites to me. I mean, If I know something, I don't need to have faith in it because it exists regardless of what I think. And me simply having faith that something is true doesn't make it true. When I said this to the lady, she told me that we just thought on different levels, which I did not argue. But I still don't understand knowledge through faith. Sounds almost delusional to me. What do you think? All types of opinions are welcome.

I think you're onto something. Faith is unmerited belief. By unmerited I don't mean believing something that is unworthy, but something unprovable. What you believe and what you "know" seem different to me. Unless what you believe can be objectively and repeatedly demonstrated, i.e. tested and proven, I think you merely "believe", "have faith in", "assume" but you do not "know."

Faith isn't needed for what can be seen, touched, tasted, felt, tested, etc. Faith is a choice to trust infomration that can't be verified or tested. For example, the apostle Thomas got the chance to put his finger in the holes in Jesus' body, so we're told. But no Christians since have had that chance. They've had to believe what they were told on faith, that is to trust the information without proof.

For mundane claims, like, "There's a city in China named Beijing" you may take that on faith and believe it without going there yourself. But one would want more verification the more extraordinary the claim and the more import the claim has for living. The claims of Christianity are quite extraordinary and otherwise completely outside human experience, and these claims have dramatic importance if true, so we would of course be justified in demanding extraordinary proof for the extraordinary claims, and they offer none. In fact their religion makes it virtue to believe without question or doubt on their mere say so, which in any other area of life we would call being "gullible" but which they make a spiritual virtue fo which you will be "blessed." Sounds like a con game doesn't it?

If we assume the universe was created, then it’s reasonable to assume there was a creator. That’s as far as science has progressed today, but just look how far religion has progressed.

Religion states (fact) there was a creator called God, that God still exists, God also created places called Heaven & Hell, God wrote an instruction book called the Bible, God will banish evil people to Hell, God will send good people who follow the Bible to Heaven, that people referred to in the Bible (like Jesus) will return to Earth, and a whole raft of other statements of fact. That’s right, religious fact, not assumptions.

Now tell me truthfully, if science doesn’t even know yet whether the universe was created or not, but religious believers state: “not only was the universe created by God, here’s a whole lot more proof and facts to go with it, what do you think?

Either religious believers just have vivid imaginations or suffer from a common mental illness. I think commonsense and logic would suggest that religious believers are mentally handicapped.

You would have to have a lot of faith to believe anything that religion puts forward as facts.

Have Faith through logic I know that God came fit an elephant through an eye of a needle because He can place 100's of apple trees in one piece of fruit. If you pray with sincerity God will reveal Himself to you. What you may call coincidence I call a Blessing and Miracles. Open your heart and mind God is there waiting for You!

would you be open to possibly praying about it? Knowledge through faith comes from understanding. Read your bible, and ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand the message God is trying to tell you. God bless man.

I'm 47 years old and I still have not figured out whether I believe in God or not. However, I do not believe in organized religion, because they are mostly after your money. At least, it's been my experience so far.

As far as the bible goes, they claim it's the word of God and that it was written by him, but it was written by men, who were mere mortals just like the rest of us. There was nothing special about them. They breathed air, ate when they were hungery, slept when they were tired, and put their shorts on one foot at a time like the rest of us; that is if they wore them! Eventually, they died and turned to nothing more than dried up old bones somewhere!

Yes trhough faith you can know everything

Just like Bush said that God told him to go into war with Iraq.

Just like we all wind up killing people in the name of faith, in the name of God and in the name of Jesus.

My knowledge and longing for God's word ( the Bible ) started to grow when I put my faith in Christ. The Bible is God's life manual, it really start to make sense when you have faith in your heart.

You use electricity, to turn and of a light bulb.
There are about 4 or 5 working theories of electricity, but no one knows for sure what it really is.
yet you use it. does that mean you have faith or knowledge?

True faith, is also based on some fact. Did Jesus have a problem with appearing to Thomas to prove that he was the Christ? He let Thomas touch the holes in his body and Thomas then fell to his knees and said "My Lord and my God". God has given us so much evidence and fact that we don't have to believe blindly. Most Christians do believe blindly and there is nothing wrong with that. But other believers like myself had to see some evidence like Thomas did in order to substansiate our reason to believe. I could list you dozens of scientific discoveries like the finding of "CHARCOALED REMAINS OF SODOM AND GOMORAH" Perfectly preserved Egyptian chariot wheels found in the red sea, and on and on. But when I really dug into the scriptures it was Prophecy that convinced me. When I researched and found over 900 specific prophecies that came true just as they were foretold. That along with all the other physical evidence for me to say "My Lord and my God" just like Thomas did.

God Bless you in your search for truth
