the wizard let me know it wouldn't install because it couldn't find the necessary software although it did try also trouble shooter didn't help any and at the bottom of my screen it read hardware found but there must be something wrong can this situation be helped

how about giving a hint as to what software / hardware you are talking about?
If you have Win XP, some hardware is plug and play and the software is not required. Just plug in the 'hardware' and could be you will get the messge 'new hardware found and is now ready to use"
