I have shoulder length hair and I wash it every other day. Recently I've noticed that my scalp is dry and the next day (after the wash) the top seems oily. Right now I'm using Herbal Essences but before that, I was using SunSilk. Is it the shampoo and conditioner that I'm using thats making it go funny? Is there something I can do to make my hair less flaky and less oily? Any suggestions?

you can buy dandruff shampoo, head and shoulders works best in my opinion, as for the oily hair, it can be the shampoo and conditioner, but there are other things that affect the oilyness of hair also, such as over active glands under the scalp, been a teenager the list goes on, the best way to deal with oily hair is to keep washing it every other day, not every day, and when you apply the conditioner, dont put it on the top of the head, instead apply to the back of the hair then work your way up, also you can try not to get the conditioner too close to the head/roots, which causes the oilyness. There are also shampoos and conditioners out there that are designed for oily hair.

The word of the day for you is: OXIDATION. This is very common at this time of the year since you have been exposed to too much oxygen in the air and there is oxide build-up on your hair from the environment. Begin by using a detoxifying shampoo such Aveda Hair Detoxified. Also, condition four times per week and if you experience any severe dryness use a deep conditioner once a week. Leave it on for about 30 minutes and rinse with cool water. Never use hot water on you hair. Above all, develop a good relationship with a reputable stylist at a Good salon, not a mediocre salon. Keep a positive outlook on life.

The Head and Shoulders range have lots of options now, both in shampoo and conditioner, so might be worth a look.

Also are you drying your hair with a hairdryer or other strong heat equipment? You might try drying your hair naturally and using a good conditioning hair styling product instead.

And the oily part ... do you brush your hair a lot? That stimulates the oil production. It may be worth trying a wide-toothed comb to work gently through your hair instead.
