Strep Throat is an infection caused by the Streptococcus Bacteria. It is very common among young children and teens. Symptoms include red swollen tonsils, stomach pain, and fever.
If you have strep, you will start to develop other symptoms within 3 days:
1. red & white patches in the throat.
2. difficulty swallowing
3. tender or swollen lymph nodes in the neck
4. red & enlarged tonsils
5. headache
6. lower stomach pain
7. fever
8. general discomfort, uneasiness, or ill feeling
9. nausea & loss of appetite
10.rash
More than likely your Dr. will prescribe about 10 days of antibiotics. You are most infectious when your symptoms are the most severe. Lack of treatment puts you at risk for other health problems such as rheumatic fever(which can cause permanent damage to the heart), scarlet fever, blood infections, or kidney disease.
To keep from spreading strep: handwashing is always key, wash your eating utensils in hot soapy water, cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze and cough.

The most common symptoms of strep throat are a sudden, severe sore throat; pain or difficulty swallowing; fever over 101° (38.3°); swollen tonsils and lymph nodes; and white or yellow spots on the back of a bright red throat. Strep infection may also cause a headache and abdominal pain. Less commonly, strep throat can cause a red skin rash, vomiting, loss of appetite, and a general feeling of discomfort or illness.
The incubation period—the period from when you are first exposed to the bacteria until you develop symptoms—is 2 to 5 days.
You are considered contagious (able to spread the infection to others) while you still have symptoms; you are usually no longer contagious within 24 to 48 hours after starting antibiotics. However, if you do not seek treatment for strep throat, you may continue to be contagious for 2 to 3 weeks even if your symptoms go away.
In general, sore throats are most often caused by a viral infection and not strep bacteria. Strep throat does not occur with coldlike symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, or a runny or stuffy nose. The more coldlike symptoms you have, the less likely it is that your sore throat is a strep infection

Could be. Is your neck sore (swollen glands)? Does your throat look red (go look in the mirror). You should probably gargle with hot salt water, take some asprin or tylenol for the fever, and then call your doctor. Strep is usually no big deal, but it can turn into other things if it gets out of hand.

If you have a headache with it, and also swollen glands in the neck and white spots on your throat, it is probably strep. You have to take an antibiotic for strep. If it is not treated, it can damage your kidneys. Besides that, it's miserable until you get some medicine. Hope you feel better soon! Strep sucks!

Gargle with hot salt water. There are sore throats and there are strep throats. Strep is easily identified in a clinic. It is quite hard on the body, so have it checked out if you don't improve in a day or so.

Yes, it sounds like maybe you have strep throat, you need to see your doctor for a antibiotic. And yes it is very contagious, if you think you have don't share any glasses or you could pass it around.
