Realizing that recreation as we know it is a recent event in history, what kinds of recreational activity would Jesus had participated in, do you think? Or would Joseph and Mary needed to him to be working at a much younger age than children do today?

I'd imagine he had very little time for recreation back then. Most people of his time were subsistence farmers so I think most of his day was spent tending sheep and doing chores around the farm. There were no child labor laws at the time. Many people had extended families solely for the purpose of having help around their farm. It wasn't until about the 20th century that the concept of the small nuclear family became common and because of many of the modern conveniences of today had time for recreation.

Oh I think Jesus would have had a great time having fun and had freinds his own age. He would have been working along side his father at an early age (as all boys did in that era) but there would have been time for him to have fun. Children today aren't working as soon as they did even fifty years ago. Jesus was a normal boy having fun. I like that. Blessings.

I don't think Jesus would have been very good at sports, because in every film I've every seen, Jesus always walks more slowly and reverently than anybody else. He does everything slowly- He turns his head slowly, he lifts his eyes slowly, his hands reach out slowly- Sort of like he's on ludes all the time.

Seriously I don't know WHY it's so popular to portray Jesus this way. I think he would have been quite normal, like everybody else in the day.

No doubt Jesus probably had to help His mother and father at an early age.

As far as recreation goes, yes, Jesus probably played games with friends. He was always fair, never cheated, was a good loser and was a humble winner.

You went to work as soon as you could walk. Very little children carried things around the house. Older boys worked in the fields or at their father's craft, girls were married off too young to ever make it out of the house.

Jesus was tempted with every same thing all teenagers are tempted with, but because he was the son of God, he resisted all ungoddly temptations and remained free of sin.
