It's true, your skin may have been severely damaged. However, that doesn't mean you have skin cancer or any major effect. The best thing to do is go to a dermatologist, take good care of your skin from now on, don't expose your skin to any more damage and use lots of lotion and sun protection every single day, so it will help recover and avoid early wrinkles.

Your body makes new skin cells every minute...so your epidermis is constanly shedding....this means your skin will look beautiful again in no time, but in the long run the sun really does damage you skin and increases production of melanocytes (these are cells that make up freckles) which can cause skin cancer

if you burn really easily and do it a lot during the year, keep track of all the freckles on your body (this is way to tell if you are going toward skin disease or cancer) here's how:

---check your body and see if you have developed any new freckles or moles, keep note of it
---check your existing freckles and moles and make not of any changes in:
* color
* symetry (shape)

If you have pale white skin and red or ginger hair this may mean that you are either Celtic or of Celtic descent. The best advice is for you to keep out of the sun. Wear a wide brimmed sun hat and keep your arms and body covered. Sunshine burns the skin of any human but is in particular dangerous to people with pale white skin.

Yes, the skin tends to get wrinkled and there is the possibility
of "baso celular" (sorry that is in Portuguese) which is benign
cancer and will not spread. However you should visit a skin
specialist since he will see and know how to guide you.
Best of luck and do not worry, I have had plenty of these
and you can no longer notice scars or flaky spots.
