I'm going to NYC next month and I'm trying to find out were I can find some totally chic (and yet cheap and afordable) shops for clothes and accesories. I LOVE to shop, so if there is a particular area that has lots of shops like this on a certain street that you know of, that would be great! (I've heard chinatown is good, what do you all think?)

Chinatown is good for electronics (cash only) and Chinese food. Unless you plan on wearing peking duck, I would suggest that you look for chic fashions elsewhere.

Cheap and stylish = H&M, Century 21, Daffy's and Loehmanns.

If you have never been to an earrings wholesaler, now is your chance. There are minimum purchase amounts, but you will get the same earrings that are being shipped to all the stores at about 1/5th of the price. Earrings Plaza at 6th & 32nd is my all time favorite.

NYC is full of stores. What you want determines where you will go to get it. Try buying an issue or two of Time Out New York before you come so you can get some ideas on places to visit and shop.

Century 21 - down on Cortland Street across from Ground Zero - is the place that you're looking for. It's gotten kind of touristy so I'd recommend going early in the day, or on a weekday. I got a $800 pair of Marc Jacobs pants for $50. They have great stuff for both men and women. One warning - very limited dressing rooms
If you're really into shopping I'd also recommend Loehmann's, on 7th Ave and 17th Street. Also have some great stuff for great prices, although you have to work a little harder to find it and their men's stuff isnt that great. One block over on 6th Ave is Filene's basement which sometimes has great stuff with big sales
There's cheap stuff in Chinatown, but it's mostly Chinese. Immediately north of Chinatown is Nolita with some very chic, but hardly cheap stores

Try 34th Street, by Macy's....There's a whole strip of stores off that street. Also 125th street in Harlem is pretty good for shopping cheap. You might want to also try SoHo.

Canal street. But watch out for pickpockets. And don't buy anything at the price they give you. All prices are subjective.
