The short answer is yet to the finding out and no the the involvment. The insurance company would find out even if you did not tell them because insurance companies share that type of claims information. They do this because sometimes people don't get their damage fixed and then try to claim the damage a second time on another accident. In addition, you are normally required by your policy to report the accident (which insurance company types call the "loss") This will have no impact on your rates, however, because you are not opening a claim and the accident was not your fault.
Hope this helps. This is a common question, but a very good one.

You should have an accident report. If you didn't get one at the scene of the accident, contact the police and get one NOW. You'll need it as a back up in case something goes wrong with the other insurance.
Your insurance WILL find out about the accident, even if you don't tell them. Every renewal or so, your insurance company pulls what is called a CLUE report. This report gives them every little detail about what that car has been through accident wise. While this should not make your insurance go up - as you weren't at fault and your company did not have to pay out, you may still have to show proof that you weren't at fault. That's another good reason to have that Accident Report handy.
Good Luck!

you should inform your insurance company of the incident. it will not cause your insurance rate to be affected in any way. did you get a police report confirming the accident was not your fault?? if not, is it possible to do so? this would confirm with your insurance company you were not at fault. i guess they porbably wouldn't find out if you didn't tell them, but the other guy's insurance might want to deal with your insurance instead of you directly. it's just how they (insurance companies) do things. good luck

Insurance rates will not be affected by this accident. I would inform your auto insurance company just in case you ever have a problem with filing a claim.

That's what insurance is for. If the other party is completely at fault (especially if you have proof), then you have nothing to worry about. Make a claim with your insurance company and let them handle it for you.

Your policy contract requires you report the loss, but all you have to do is report it. You don't have to make a claim and they don't have to investigate if the other person is at fault and you are going through the other carrier directly.
