I've got a problem I hope you can help me with. I don't have much money and was thinking of making homemade sweets etc to give as Christmas presents this year. Does anyone know of any easy to make items which will keep for several weeks? Bearing in mind that some members of my family suffer from nut and coconut allergies. Any ideas would be appreciated.

If you keep them in the refrigerator they will last several months. If you freeze them the chocolate will turn gray.
Creme De Menthe Balls
1 # powdered sugar

1/3 cup creme de menthe
Mix well. Shape into balls or flatten with a fork.
Dip in melted chocolate.

Easy Choc. Truffles

1 pkg. (8oz) Cream cheese
3 cups powdered Sugar
1 1/2 pkg. Baker's Semi-sweet squares
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Beat cream cheese till smooth.
Gradually addd sugar beating till well blended. Add melted Chocolate and vanilla. mix well and refrigerate for an hour.
Shape into balls and dip in chocolate.
Store in the fridge.
For Spirited Truffles add 3 Tbssp. of your favorite liquor to each batch or break it down into 3 batches and add 1 Tbsp. to each bowl ful.

Well done on your creative approach. Instead of getting depressed over it you manage to think of something creative.

Sugar is a natural preservative, so depending on the other ingredients, the sweets will keep but the taste might change over time. Keep in mind egg and milk go off sooner than flour or chocolate.

My first guess would be cookies, relatively easy to make and they last.

Other options are fruit compote or marmalade which would look lovely in little jars for christmas and can accompany the cookies.

Truffles and chocolate covered fruit or dried fruit is also a very good and impressive idea. You will need to use strong flavoured dark chocolate for best results. Go for Green and Blacks organic variety.

Hope that helps.

Homemade sweets will keep for years. I make chocolate ones and marzipan ones. Always wanted to try Marshmallows, but they seem complicated.

It is not too soon if you are considering candies to be eaten over the christmas period. If you are doing cakes I think it is too early. If you are making jam I think you can go straight ahead i just made some myself.I hope this helps

I'd say make choc chip cookies, easy on the flour they'll stay chewy and good for 4-5 days
