Alright, maybe I didn't speak clearly the first time. I have no problem with someone praying to their diety for things that are out of reach or serious in nature. If someone is dying from a terminal or chronic illness, no problem, I understand why one would pray. It's out of their control. If someone prays that they get out of debt (given the cirumstances), I'd see why one would pray, although the situation is slightly under his/her control. I just don't see why someone would submit to God his/her problems regarding dating, winning a football game, getting a promotion at a job, doing better in school, etc etc. I hear people argue that you must submit to God for him to answer your prayers but that doesn't answer my question. My question is: Why rely on God for the small things in your life like that? Do you not think that you must do SOME things on your own without the help from others, God or human? Here was my previous question.

God certainly gave us gifts and expects us to exercise them. As one grows and matures one becomes more and more adept at handling problems. I think the basic concept is that God wants us to understand that our very life and breath are gifts from Him and we need to rely upon His direction and grace so we do not fall into pride, or thinking that we can do it on our own.

In the Lord's prayer we are even admonished to ask humbly for our "daily bread," since we cannot say with certainty what any given day will bring. Elsewhere in scripture, He tells us to commit the work of our hands to Him so that it may be blessed.

God can give us help and direction, for example, when we need help in school or at work. He can supply answers to problems and delights in doing so. As far as praying to win a football game - that is a selfish prayer and God will not honor prideful requests that puff up self. One would be better off thanking God for one's gift of athletic ability and praying for an injury-free event!

OK, I read your previous question. And I have this to say, If you can not trust God with the little things in life, then you will not trust Him with the big things. When I was 45 I was inspired to ask for my soul mate. I did. I also asked Him to make sure that I knew that she was the one so that I would not continue to chase skirts. He did that too. We have been together for 6+ years and we have been married for 3. I have never in my life known a woman that was so easy to live with, or get along with then her. I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that she was created just for me. And I do commit EVERY LITTLE THING in my life into God's care each and every day. I have no worries, I let God do that for me. I depend on Him for everything, and He has never let me down.

Submitting and placing all things before God is a really righteous thing to do... but it is also very difficult. It goes against our nature to release control. However the bible says that man cannot evn direct his own steps, and also that there is a way that seems right to man but is apart from God. If you can trust Him with the Big things in your life, why not the small? God is our father who loves us and who through prayer and studying His word can direct our lives so that we avoid the pitfalls before us.

Going back to your original question. Faith if that is in this guy's heart will win out. Its not instaneous, God will work with whatever kind of personality we have. He wants our attention and trust. If you are praying for an open door in a dark room where you can't see He will provide, but you have to touch all the walls to find the opening. If you need a shove He will give you one.

Yes, you should do things on your own but there still is nothing wrong with asking God for help in all areas of your life. We are finite, fallible, imperfect beings and without God we can do nothing, the Bible says so. We could not move, wake up in the morning, even breathe without God. Think about it.

I try to ask God for His help, love, understanding, guidance and forgiveness in most things in my life. I'm a poor judge of character and told Him when He found the right man for me to please drop him in my lap. Since than, He has sent me several cats that I love dearly but no man. But I haven't been looking for anyone any way. But I also think the Bible says that God helps those who help themselves. So I do what I can and hope that He will help me deal with and handle the rest. May God help and bless you in your and His way and time.

God is our father in heaven (asChristian point of view) Just like you would ask your dad for advice on the big and the little, you should ask God for his advice too.

Because, he asked us to. To seek him in all things. He being our Savior , Lord and our master.

Jesus once said, why calleth me Lord and do not as I say.

When you take Elohim in all things , then you are of him and he works within you. We are to live in this world , not be of it.

Living with God working in us prepares our soul for our new home. Our soul is being prepared for our new spiritual bodies

God wants us to rely on him, because he wants us to glorify him when he does things for us that are within his will.
