For male & female prospectives:

I myself don't understand why a woman would need flowers, candy, cards and things of that nature to be told 'I Love You'. I think just hanging out, making each other laugh and doing the important things for me or with me counts more than all of those things put together. I don't get it ... why is that females think the way that they do?

I've gotten flowers sent to my office ... I thought it was embrsing ... chocolates make a woman fat .. and I know this is semi horrible but I have a tendency to forget anniversaries as well.

Everyone feels loved in different ways some gifts make them feel loved, some words of apreciation or recognition, some quality time, and still others physical touch makes them feel love. We can not be mad at a women who feels loved by recieving gifts, we can just call her materialistic in my opinion!

I share your tendency to forget anniversaries too and find flower arrangements embarrassing also.
But I do like a more personal gift from time to time, not necessarily on an anniversary; maybe a special weekend at the beach, or something that's more in tune with my likes or our relationship, you know, more intimate.

As females we have been programmed since embryonic state to love those things (flowers and candies) by all the marketing media around us that thrives on holidays like Valentine's day, etc. It sucks I know...As also we're trained that our wedding day is the zenith of our existance...

A gift communicates to the recipient a lot more than the gift itself. Sometimes, a wild flower picked from the side of the road means more than the most expensive gift in the world. The right gift can indeed communicate a thousand words

I personally think all of that is a waste of money. I'd rather go out without the kids and do something together with my husband rather than get some flowers that die, some candy that will add 10# to my rear and a card that will eventually get thrown away. Beats me why most women think this is important, and why men think it is important to send them......

Everyone is unique. A lot of women though like those things because it shows that they guy took time to acknowledge a special event and wasn't afraid to let the whole world know that he loves that woman.

I agree with you too a point. But, as a man, we have been trained through advertising and frequent down turned smiles from other women that they do enjoy these things...

Females have also been trained to expect these things on special occassions...so where is the happy meeting place?

I don't need to have flowers and candy and cards for our anniversary, but it is nice to get flowers for no reason- just because they love you- cards too. I love getting and giving cards.

Let me clarify for you: A WOMAN DOES NOT NEED THOSE THINGS. They are simply nice gestures, and nice gestures can be in several sizes, shapes, or forms. They aren't a substitute for hanging out, laughing together, etc, as you mentioned.

Don't be a hater because you are one in a million who doesn't appreciate these things.

Wow, well too bad most women arn't like you. I guess in particular women usually like flowers because they are pretty, candy because they usually like sweets. In my experience women love little ego boosters.
