i never drink coffee but for a lot of people, drinking soda like pepsi or mountain dew wakes them up, perks them up, makes them alert or hyper...soda never affects me like that. i only drink a few cans a month so it's not like my body got used to it and stopped being affected or anything. but from as far as i can remember, it has never been like a stimulant for me to stay up when i study and things...why does it affect people differently?

The fact is, it has something to do with your own body makeup. I drink black coffee an hour before going to bed; I fall to sleep quickly and sleep until the alarm awakens me. The answer is it works for most people. But not for all.

Honestly, I've never noticed caffeine from soda affecting me. I have drank Mountain Dew, and I didn't go skydiving in a Jeep or anything. But, coffee definitely affects me. I don't like the taste, so I put lots of cream and sugar in it. Try it out, it should work for you.

April,
Have you ever been checked for ADHD? Years ago I could drink five cans of soda do a couple lines of coke-sorry to say that I was once a coke head-and then sit and read. I was diagnosed as ADHD 15 years ago and things work differently for me. That is why stimulants are given to ADHD people. I still drink a cup of coffee in the evening to relax me and I sleep well.

I've heard that things happen opposite to people that are ADD or ADHD. I haven't been diagnosed or anything, but if i can't sleep, I'll drink about half a can of coke, and it'll help me go to sleep, rather than keep me up (that's a job for Mountain Dew).

soda doesn't really have that much caffiene, not enough to get you wired, or even keep you awake. some of us just are naturally more alert, and a little hyper.

dehydration, makes you tired, maybe they just don't have enough hydration and it's actually the fluid that perks them up, not just that little bit of caffiene and sugar, they are probably on a sugar rush, heavy soda drinkers, usually injest more salts and sugars as well

Soda may not affect you for many reasons. Your metabolism may be higher then most so it won't affect you like other people. It could be completely in your mind too. By thinking that is has no effect then it won't. The brain is very powerful.

Caffeine has the oppoiste effect on people with hyperactivity (ADD or ADHD) that on the usual masses. It does not act like a stimulant to those people, but almost like a barbituate. The diuretic effects are still present, however.

I am the same way!
I have found the tea at one restaurant will work on me. I tried the tablet stimulants to stay awake - and I had the best night sleep of my life.
There is something that will work for you, but you will have to discover it accidentally, the way I did.
Best Wishes!!

Sai, può benissimo darsi che a te la caffeina presente nella bibite faccia meno effetto... un po' come certe persone che reggono l'alcool meglio di altre. Conosco persone che usano il caffè per addormentarsi meglio... prova con la camomilla!
Ciao
