Unlike being able to write the credit agency to challenge a negative item, to remove inquries you have to write the company that made the inquiry. Write the company a polite, professional letter. Tell them you do not recall having authorized the inquiry and if you are mistaken please send you proof of authorizing an inquiry, otherwise please remove the inquiry.

Generally you can't. Inquiries on your credit report are separated into two groups - those companies that do a high level general credit check (usually the ones that send you credit card offers, etc.) and those companies to which you applied for some sort of credit.
You should obtain a copy of your credit report from all 3 major agencies and review them for accuracy at least once a year.
