Or put in another way:

Where is it a command that saying the "sinners prayer" saves you?

It doesn't. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father [heaven] but through me." John 14:6

There is no reference to this. The West has contextualized some scriptures and ideas for easy understanding, and this is one of them. The Bible does say that you must repent, be born again(new life & changes) and believe in Jesus Christ. There is no talk of "accepting Jesus into your heart", but only of "believe in your heart and you will be saved." There are not "steps to salvation" or "sinners prayer" or "4 spiritual laws". In my opinion, Christianity is not formulaic, and these methods can be dangerous, because they are too simple and sometimes hearts are not right and sincere. Sometimes a person sincerely wants to be a Christian and says the "sinner prayer", but Christianity is so much more than a prayer or religion-it's a relationship.

The prayer itself does not save you; rather it is the attitude that the prayer reflects that saves.

See Luke 18:9-14 (especially verse 13); Romans 10:8-13; and, First John 1:8-10.

The sinners prayer is not a 'work'

It is by grace we are saved through faith, not of works lest any man should boast.

Repenting is turning away from sin.

Its not the 'prayer' or the act of 'prayer' that saves a person, it is the attitude with which we pray the sinners prayer, - sincere!

It doesn't The apostels asked the Lord to teach them how to pray.. not what to pray. He wants our prayers to be from the heart, not some man-made sinners prayer. There is no such thing that will get you to heaven, you could pray a million years, but if you are not in the body of Christ, then God never hears you.

It doesn't.
But, the sinners prayer does contain all of the elements necesary for a person to believe in order for them to be a Christian.

They bible says that you should repent for your sins, follow Gods laws and surrender to God. The sinners prayer encompasses all those things into one prayer.
