Why is it no matter what receipe I use for my chocolate chip cookies, the next day they always are rock hard and I end up throwing them away. Also, why can't they have that edge crunch and soft chewy center the next day. They always taste perfect the first day and then they change. Is it something to do with an amount of sugar or floor or powder or soda I use? I don't even cook them for the full amount of time because when I do they always get hard.

For really chewy cookies - use real butter - Make sure you mix up the butter really well before you add the other ingredients. Then once done you will need an airtight container. Put the cookies in the container and place a slice of bread in it. The bread will keep the cookies moist. If you still have cookies left and the bread is hard go ahead and replace the bread with a fresh piece. ENJOY!!!!

Storing in an air tight container will help with keeping the cookies fresher longer. You can also put a piece of bread in with them. The bread will become hard and your cookies will stay soft.
Make sure you adjust your recipe for things like the altitude you live in. Often when I'm making cookies for just my family and not guests I will only make a dozen or two at a time and refrigerate the dough for a day or two cooking more only as my kids want to eat them. The dough will keep in the fridge for 3-5 days as long as it is covered.

I suggest that you keep them in an airtight container and maybe add an extra egg. Also, you could try using a new recipe. May I suggest that you try the Betty Crocker recipe? It has always worked for me, and brings rave reviews. Don't worry if they are a little bit harder the next day, I can't think of any cookie that doesn't harden at least a little overnight!
Best wishes!

A little extra butter goes a long way. Also, put a peice of white bread in the container where you are storing the cookies...sounds strange, but it helps.

They are supposed to be that way. If you want them moist and to stay that way put them in a tight container with a small piece of bread or apple or orange peel.

The only way ours stay nice more than one day is to keep them in the most airtight container as possible.

Are you putting them in a sealed container after cooling?
It also depends on how long you bake them for.

Stop putting Viagra in the cookie mix.

Then your cookies won't get hard.
