Whenever I'm in the kitchen preparing meals, of course the cat is there begging for food. He watches my every move hoping to seize the opportunity should a scrap as little as a micron in diameter fall to the floor. Anyway, day after day, month after month, he watches me open the cupboard door and throw waste into the garbage bin. He is never around when I empty it, so I'm wondering: Is he at all bothered that the bin never seems to fill up? Will his furry little head suddenly explode without warning one day?

Many of you have misunderstood. I DO give him the occasional scrap.

I suspect it doesn't enter his pretty little noggin.

Here's the reason why. Since the day you got him, he's had this tray of sand where he goes when he has a pressing need. After a few visits to the tray, things start piling up...but lo and behold, on his next visit, the sand has returned, as if by magic, to its pristine state. With this happening consistently since time immemorial (to him at least) - the fact that the garbage never fills up probably doesn't elicit much of a reaction!

If your cat is anything like mine, then I really wouldn't worry about his head exploding from too much thinking - we often liken him to Zoolander - gorgeous, but not too much happening upstairs!

He's probably never around when you empty the trash for a reason. If I saw someone throwing away all kinds of stuff that I wanted to eat, I'd be ticked off to! But that doesn't mean I would keep trying to beg. It's a cat. The basically have nothing to live for execpt food and attention. Would it hurt to give him a scrap. Why waste it? Do you enjoy teasing animals?

Cats have a very short attention span, and i'm sure he doesn't really think about the garbage can filling up.

You should give him a tid bid of the food! He's been sooo patient! One little bit will not hurt him! Besides if his head does explode you will be sad you never gave him the food he wanted...
