I'm guessing your at least over 34 weeks pregnant. Anyhow if you are already dialed or effected some those checks do get more painful your cervix feels tender more easy. No doctor i know of would strip your membranes without telling you.My guess is your cervix is getting soft and short and was just tender you should have told the doc you were feeling pain. WOW the 1st posted said her doc did without asking maybe call and ask the doctor and explain it was painful. i've been pregnant 4 times i don't think my doc ever did that.

This should never ever happen, but yes, it can and does happen.

I would definitely ask, and if you do not want it done in the future, make it very clear you object.

How can you have a trusting relationship with a caregiver who does not even ask your consent or inform you of the risks and benefits of a procedure before doing it to you?

To me this is a serious violation of medical ethics if indeed she did it to you without obtaining your consent first.

I also believe there is no benefit to vaginal exams during late pregnancy. I believe this because an OB told me so. ;-) It provides no information about how soon it will be until labor starts, but it does provide an opportunity for dangerous infection to be introduced...

I don't like having fingers shoved up my hoo-haa without a very good reason for doing so, thus I decline internal exams during pregnancy.

They shouldn't, but they do it all the time.
My OB did it to me w/o asking first when I was PG with my first baby.
From what I've heard, it's pretty common.
Yet another reason not to allow vaginal exams until you are in labor....if even then. They provide very little useful information anyway.

And they don't need a "tool" to do it....they can strip your membranes with their fingers.

My doctor told me with all three of my pregnancies before he did that. You might be starting to dilate, and if so, the exams could be very painful. Call her and see what she says. Good luck

She didn't strip your membranes (you would have noticed the tool that looks a bit like a cheese grater in her hand if she was going to). She was probably checking to see how effaced you were.
