I think the question should be why only 50 pounds? Why not start off with a goal that you can easily achieve then you will not feel pressured to lose the weight in unhealthy ways like losing too fast or getting sucked into dangerous diet schemes. You also have to assess why you want to lose this weight? is it for someone else or are you concerned about your own health? I would consult with your health care professional to make sure that you can start an exercise program, that your weight is not caused by something else. Most of all, think about how much better you will feel when you lose this weight and good luck. Stay healthy.

I'm trying to do the same thing. I started 2 months ago eating no more than 1800 calories a day. Lifting weights 30 minutes at least 3 times a week. Eating whole grains lots of veggies lean meats, and at least 1 fruit per day. Breaking up my calories into a 200 calorie breakfast 300 calorie lunch two 200 calorie snacks and a 600 calorie dinner. i know it doesn't add up but thats just my cushion for when lunch was actually 350 instead of 300. Stick with it and your goal is very possible. I have lost 18 in 2 months and it would have been more if I hadn't had a week and a half of vacation where I maintained the weight i was at. Good luck!!

First question. Is the weight mostly around your middle? If it is then have the dr. test your blood sugar. Fat deposits around the mid section are an early warning sign of diabetes. If your dr. says that's the case, then that could be a reason you're not loosing weight well...it's called Insulin Resistance. And it's a common condition here in America. It also makes it near to impossible for a lot of people to loose weight, unless the cause is treated.

I am pre-diabetic, so loosing weight is difficult for me. I'm slowly loosing it now thanks to medication helping me get my blood sugar under control.

Now, even if you're not diabetic, a low carb diabetic diet can help. Me, I use the Dr. Atkins diet to treat my diabetes and have my dr.'s approval. There are plenty of other diets out there as well that limit sugar and starches.

Best thing I can tell you, talk to your dr. Get a fully bloodwork done to see what vitamins your body might be lacking, and check that blood sugar as well. Then discuss with your dr. about a diet and exercise plan. Ask to speak to a diatecian. The dr. can recommend one. It's worth the time.

you HAVE to cut down the amount of calories you are consuming per day, no way around that one.
increase your water intake - try it with lemon if you have to, but those diet drinks (soda, etc) aren't good for you anyway so try your best to nix those

exercise - - running & jumping rope will help burn the most calories
for a big guy, like yourself, i would suggest maybe a martial arts class - you can keep your masculinity & lose the weight - get in the best shape of your life & your body will be BANGING real soon

remember muscle weighs more than fat - so don't be stuck on the "50 pounds must go" aim for improving your body shape & being healthier instead
your weight might not drastically drop, but your clothes will fit different & you will feel so much better

best wishes

Like most people mentioned, you need to cut your calories down and exercise more.

To me, fad diets and diets with special meals don't work because after I lose the weight, I go back to eating the same way I did before.

The best diet is the one that teaches moderation yet allows you to enjoy the foods you like in smaller amounts. In this way, you don't feel like you're on a special diet. For example, I love my fried foods like french fries and potato chips. Before, I would eat the whole medium size box of McDonald's fries with my sandwich. Now, I only eat 10 pcs. and throw the rest away. I also order the chicken sandwich without mayonnaise so I'm taking in the least amount of fat as possible.

In this way, I still enjoy the taste of french fries but I don't overindulge it. Likewise with potato chips, I only eat a 1 oz. (8-10 chips) portion and close the rest of the bag up.

I also subscribe to caloriescount.com for $49/yr. It allows me to log everything I eat to track how many calories and fat I'm consuming as well as how many calories I will be burning through exercise. Based on my height, weight and age, I am not supposed to take in more than 1900 calories per day in order to lose 1 pound per week. By keeping track of what I eat and my exercise, I can also plan what I can eat for dinner/lunch in case I want to splurge on the "fun" foods.

Hope this helps!

Start eating smaller portions and eat more often- it will raise your metabolism.

Also you should start working out, if it's not your thing, just start walking/jogging around the neighborhood to get your heart rate up a few times a week. Don't overdo yourself though! Take it slow and steady.

You could also start taking natural weight loss methods. I mean like a certain amount of green tea is really good for you. Natural stuff though, no diet pills!

Exercise and low calorie diet. Don't starve yourself. You might lose weight that way but you'll gain it back. Try a program like Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig. Most of the people there are women but men do them too. Good luck.

It really just boils down to burning more calories than you eat. You need to start paying attention to your portion sizes, stay away from fried food and fast food, eat lots of veggies, chicken, and fish. Cut back on sodas and butter. And for exercise, start out with something that feels comfortable to you. Maybe start walking first until you feel you can do more intense aerobic exercises like biking, running, swimming, and roller blading. Try some workout dvds, too. My favorite is the Biggest Loser one, you can find that on their website or I got mine from Ebay for $15. It's actually a fun workout and they have real people on there that have lost weight. Try to set realistic goals for yourself and try to think of this as a lifestyle change. It will take a while, but if you do it right, you'll learn good habits that you'll stick to for life. Good luck!!

Top weight loss tips

Today there is too much information available on losing weight that has become more confusing and sometimes difficult to follow. It’s actually very easy to lose weight if you follow my weight loss tips.

* Be in right frame of mind
Before you can start any diet program you need to be in the right frame of mind. If you do not feel good about yourself you probably will not want to choose healthy foods. You cannot expect the act of going on a diet to make you feel better about yourself. The only way you can choose to eat a healthy diet to lose weight is if you have a positive self-image.

* Eat whole food
Top weight loss tips
Eat whole foods that are as natural as possible. When you eat whole foods that are full of nutrients your body will know how much to eat and how much not to eat. You do not have to count calories because your body is a wonderful machine.

* Eat fresh fruit
Eat at least two servings of fresh fruit every day. Choose whatever type of fruit is in season.

* Drink enough water
Drink the best weight loss supplement known to man, water. Most people do not know the difference from being hungry for food or thirsty for water. A great deal of times people eat when they should drink. Most likely you will not feel as hungry if you are getting enough water. You will be satisfying the thirst, which is confused for hunger. Water also helps you digest food better. Drinking water before you eat will help fill you up.

* Always chew your food
Always chew your food well. Chewing your food well will ensure that you get the most nutrients out of your food. Getting the most nutrients will satisfy your body therefore you will eat less. Another benefit of chewing well is that it helps aid in digestion.

* Take small meals
Eat small, frequent meals in a day. Large meals tax your digestion system, making it work harder. Taking too much time in between meals makes you hungrier for the next meal.

* Include protein at meal
Include good sources of protein at meal, chicken, fish, legumes, peanut, cottage cheese, eggs or yogurt.

* Shut off TV while eating
Shut off the TV whenever you eat – that includes meals and snacks. Studies show that we automatically eat larger portions when we snack in front of the tube, and typically those foods are high in fat and sugar, which means excess calories!

* Increase your physical activity
Increase your physical activity. Most people are over weight because of a lack of physical activity. Start walking more, bicycling, walks your dog for longer periods of time, swim, dance and leave the car at home when you can. It’s important that you choose a physical activity that you enjoy because you’ll stick with it.
