Cubic Zirconia is a man-made diamond, it has the same chemical properties as a diamond - but it is cheaper because it is man-made, not earth made.

I would just ask him if he minds - rather than lie and say it is a real one, seems like a bad way to start off a marriage. Or else just forgoe the diamond and find a nice solid band with a design you both like?

I think it depends... but I don't think CZs are a complete No-No.

A friend of mine wanted an eternity band of diamonds for her wedding ring. It really was a beautiful compliment to her engagement ring, but as you can imagine, a quality ring like that cost a pretty penny; more than the two of them could afford. She found an eternity band of diamonique (CZ) that was lovely and she was very happy with. *HE* was skeptical at first, but she told him he could buy her the real thing for their 10 year anniversary. And I have to say, most people can't tell the difference. The only time I would be upset about the substitution is if both people didn't know the truth. That would be bad.

Cubic Zirconia is cubic zirconia. It isn't rhinestone, but a lot of people think they're fake diamonds.

I would not mind. They seriously look just as real so long as they aren't too big (when I see a gal with a monstrous ring, I always think it's CZ). It's the thought and the symbol that's important, not the metal or stone.

I would, however, be upset if my fiance bought me CZ and tried to pass it off as a diamond, but that's more of an honesty thing than a ring thing.

A cubic Zirconia is a man made diamond... Meaning a real diamond is made by coal being put under extremem presure and heat over 10's of 1000s of years... While a cubic zirconia is placed in a man made devise to simulate the presure and heat and creat the stone in a matter of days...

Talk to your significate other explain your lack of funds and ask if she would rather have a large cubic zircon or a small diamond... Buying it without his/her knowledge would be a bad move....

My original wedding set featured a large 1K zircon round / after an auto accident the ring had to be cut off my finger to free me from the wreckage.. My husband offered to replace the zircon with a real diamond set and I refused I had the zircon placed in a new set instead...

After 10-15 years a zircon will take on a cloudy appearance and may need to be replaced with a new stone..

Speaking from experience, you really need to talk to your significant other. Trying to sneak someone over on someone is in poor taste--no matter what the stone. Plenty of people today are doing engagement rings in other stones besides diamonds, and they are beautiful. Though I love the ring my husband gave me, I always honor the fact that my father couldn't afford an engagement ring for my mother, but that their matching golden bands have done the trick for almost 40 years now. Last thought though, talk to your spouse-to-be. They understand your money issues, and can help you come up with an honest solution, whether it be to go small, go fake, or wait and save up until you can afford real. Also, many people "trade-up" at a special anniversary. :) Good luck!

No, the ring is a symbol of love. Not money.
My husband and I had a choice when we became engaged, a house or a ring. I chose the house. My ring was cubic and 10 yrs later still is. We have had many chances and plenty of money over the years to purchase a diamond but everytime we begin to look to replace my ring I cannot do it. This is the ring he gave me that Christmas and it means the world to me no matter what it cost. I have other diamonds that he has given me over the years and I love every one of them but nothing will ever replace the ring I have on my finger right now.

I wouldn't worry about getting him a ring with a stone. My husband has a plain gold band with a beaded edge. Most men don't even want a stone in their rings!

If you do, I wouldn't buy a CZ. Buy an itty bitty diamond if you must, but it's got to be real. You can get them cheaper than you think. Later the recipient of the tiny diamond can go out and buy a CZ ring for times when he/she wants a little extra bling. Most people won't know the difference.

Firstly, as I tell my soon to be fiance', it's not the stone or the price that matters. I'd be just as happy if he proposed with a ring from a cracker-jack box as I would with a real diamond.
As far as wedding bands go, it's a matter of taste, but I believe plain gold bands are still very popular, and can be found fairly inexpensively.
Best wishes.

Looking at the cubic zirconia one cannot tell that it is not a real diamond. You would definately have to give that information away. If your fiance bought it for your wedding I don't think you should be upset unless you love him for the kind of diamond he can give to you. Your vows should not be based on the ring that symbolizes the promise but the promise itself should be honoured. If he does have the money to buy a real diamond but doesn't, then you should be mad because then he is just being plain cheap.

Cubic zirconias are man-made stones - i.e. fake diamonds. They are easy to tell apart from diamonds, though. It wouldn't have mattered to me what type of ring my husband got me. Actually, there aren't many men who like gemstones in their wedding rings - go with a nice, simple gold band.
