I know that online relationships can work - my brother-in-law met his wife online. However, they lived in the same state. If this person was willing to come to the states, and make their own way here (without you having to marry them to do so), then you could continue the relationship in person - and then possibly CONSIDER marriage. Otherwise, you're only a ticket for them to get here and become legal.

Do not believe them. Do not get married until you want to marry the person.

It sounds like they are being irrational. How can you truly love someone that you have never met. My advise it to not marry them.
