After Jesus died, is it true he went into the depths of hell and saved everyone? I've been told this, and it was because they never got the chance to be saved. (Which makes since.) If true, that means he saved wicked people from their sins correct?

On the day after his Passion, Jesus descended into Hades and preached to those who were receptive. Those who were receptive arose from the dead with Jesus on the following day, including Adam and Eve.

Your question did Jesus go into the depths of hell? The closest we can come to finding out is turn to Acts 2: 22-36 and look back to Psalms 16: 8-11 and Psalms 132:11. Next question did He go to Hell and save everyone that was in their? Matt. 11:20-24. Luke 10: 8-15. So if those from Sodom believed on Him then why does He say, "It will be more tolerable in the day of judgment than for you."

If you follow the Bible as the ultimate authority, it says nothing of Jesus descending into hell. This is a belief that has been passed on through stories, Orthodoxy and Catholicism.

Also, before Jesus, people still went to heaven. It was a lot more difficult and the standards were set really high. So, yes, people had the option of salvation before Christ, it was just difficult...hence God became man.

Jesus' ransom sacrifice makes it possible for us all to atain forgiveness. For those who have died without the knowledge of that sacrifice and the opportunity to demonstrate their faith, Jesus said at John 5:28,29 : "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming when all those in the memorial tombs will here his voice (Jesus' voice) and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgement." So, after this resurrection, those resurrected will have the opportunity to learn what God requires of them and have a chance to respond.
The Bible uses the words Sheol and Hades, which are sometimes translated as hell. These words actually mean refer to the common grave of mankind. So when the scriptures at Acts 2:27, 31 - 32 refer to Jesus being in Hades or hell, it is talking about the three days that he was in the grave before he was resurrected to heaven.

I think you're referring to the idea that between when Jesus died and the resurrection he went down to hell for those three days and basically went Chuck Norris on all the demons and such. I wouldn't have much information to say either way, although if you remember when he was on the cross one of the other executees asked for forgiveness and Jesus basically told him that the both of them would be in paradise that same day, which would contradict him going to hell, so take that for what it's worth.

Once your in hell you can't come out to the other side. They will come out for the judgment seat. He did go to hell to conqueror it for us. Luke 16:19-31. It tells about the Rich man and Lazarus. Read 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9. In Acts 2:31 says He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. Revelation 20:13-15. Jesus died for all past, present, and future sins.

I think Carol M makes a good point. But did He go to Hell or the lower depths.. which at that time included Abraham's Bosom? I'd have to study the Greek to see if I can find out.

Nope it means he went and preached to spirits which were in prison "that what it says" And brought those out of captivity who had died in the past before He the Messiah got here. So He took all the believers in that holding place with Him into the presence of the Father. That would be folks like Moses, Samuel, etc.

I think that is when the righteous dead were brought to heaven, but to be honest I think I understood that from a part of scripture I read, also that he preached to the ones who were already dead. I don't remember reading whether any lost were saved, but that's what He does, saves the lost. I can't remember the scripture though right now. I will look when I get home.

I think just about everyone has the right idea. The scripture I think you are looking for is Ephesians 4:8-10

Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
(Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)

It doesn't actually say that Jesus went to Hell but it does seem to same that.... Jim
