Do you feel obesity in adults/teens is the own person’s fault or companies who make the junk/fast food?

What are your feelings and what do you think is the cause for obesity in both children and adults?

If you or someone you know is obese or overweight what do you think is the cause?

Thank you for your answers!

Well, in my case I was never fat until I got married. Before I met my husband (13 years ago), I was active and trim. I ate a lot, but I was always on the go, going places with my friends, swimming, weekly volleyball, jogging, walking, etc. My husband to be was not active in anyway. He liked movies and trying different restaurants, stuff like that. Well, during our dating period I gained about 15 pounds because that is all we ever did, went to movies, went out to eat, watched TV or played games. The next thing I know is I picked up his habits instead of him picking up mine after marriage and I have now gained about 200 pounds in 12 years of marriage. I've had 1 child and about 6 years ago shattered an ankle, which has added to the weight gain. Right now, I am miserable. I can't walk far without my back hurting. The excess weight causes my ankle to ache every day. I can't buy fashionable clothes or do anything else that normal sized people can do. I remember what it felt like to be trim and pretty and normal. But now, I think I am past the point of no return.

Obesity can have more than one cause.

In some people it is caused by glandular disorders.

In some people it is caused by poor diet, and poor education about dietary habits.

The marketing of junk foods and nutritionally worthless packaged "convenience" foods does not help, but the companies are not to blame for individuals' unhealthy food choices.

Personally I would LOVE to see organic, whole, natural foods become the only things people would buy. For one it would make it a whole lot easier to find the foods I prefer to feed my family, which right now I have to hunt down!

If a person is obese due to overeating and not a disorder then yes, it is the fault of that person. People have to take responsibility for what they put in their mouth.

Parents can control what a child eats. If a child is overweight and doesn't havea disorder then it is the fault of the parent.

I do not think that the companies that make and advertise the food should be blamed at all. Its up to the individual. If its a child, then it is up to the parent to let them know teach them healthy eating habits. Just like with smoking. If someone smokes and they know it causes cancer and they are warned against it. They themselves are to blame for the outcome if they end up with it. That is the problem with a lot of people in todays world. They do not accept responsiblity for their own actions, they always want to blame others

I hate it when people blame fast food it's your choice you don't have to get the BIGGIE just because it's there. You can always go to the gym or snack on carrots.

I feel really bad for kids who are obese it makes me mad at the parents my little cousin is overweight and I'm always telling my aunt to stop giving him so much after the third slice of cake he is done shoot after the second!!

Sometimes the parents. For my overweightness.... (I dont think thats a word) its my fault. But for my cousins I blam her mother. My whole family is large but I dont blame genetics... I know it does have a role, but I just dont have self control and I know it. So i will say the people. And definitly not the food places, I do think they should get rid of super sizing, even going large. Because that would help those who cant control themselves. lol Some people actually do have a problem with that. I dont, I just need to get strict on myself and get motivated.

wow. you ask these questions that require long answers.

it's not just any one thing. everybody works now-a-days. everything is in a hurry. plus, everybody gets whatever everybody wants, right? instant gratification. so...no one's home to cook, people started eating quick stuff. (which was pretty junky) but then companies noticed that and just built on it from there. there's no more room for moderation or exercising self-discipline. i mean, say you can eat anything you want, what would you choose? grilled, dry, lean chicken breast and some plain veggie sticks or a juicy bacon cheeseburger with some fries smothered in cheese. our tastes have developed this way.

first off... i don't see a single spelling error in your post. maybe i am an idiot?

secondly... i think technology is to blame. microwave meals, tv, computers...etc. i am only 28 but when i was a youngster we played outside and ate home cooked meals... i even had chores!! (those are a list of small jobs given to children by their parents) i think that we have just become lazy as a society. when people hop in their vehicles to go half a block in good weather to get a pizza... there is something fundamentally wrong with society!! there is a whole world right outside your front door. enjoy it!!!

It is definitely the person's fault. Those companies are not forcing you to buy their products. Most fat people have mental issues and use food as comfort. They end up eating themselves to 500 pounds and then need airlifted out of their bed. It honestly makes me want to throw up.
